1998 vh450sx hood

hey y'all, ok so i have a issue, i have a 98 240sx with the vh45de swap. I am NOT into the raised hood/spacer look. no way i can lower the motor ect. ect. Anyways , can anyone point me in the right direction of what company makes hoods that are flush of course with the cowl (how ever you spell it) something that will work thats not a 3" gap :picardfp:

Anyways. You can always get a traditional cowl and trim it to size so it doesn't sit super high like a drag car would have. Another option is cut a hole in the hood and just be done with it at that point.

my hood with skeleton removed is only raise like inch or so. maybe inch and 1/2 tops.
xcessive mounts and maz headers.

i know maz headers sit really low about an in below my frame with xcessive mounts. kinda a sore spot with alot of us vh swapped cars

I think his issue is more so the overall clearance. Not just the manifolds but he obviously doesn't want the metal hood directly on the intake manifold. He's going to want at least some clearance there. I'm not sure anything is available to lower that plenum that drastically.

Definitely have to alter the hood. I'd leave the rest of the drivetrain alone at that point.

True after all the right parts even lower mounts, intake is still lil high. So yes option cut hood and put a cowl. And as for origin? I will look into that style... Thank you, I know there is something out there.

The Origin Lab hood is a good option but I don't think it'll add enough clearance if you're having 3" of clearance problems. You best bet at that point is going with a true cowl unless you decide you want to go Origin and possibly have to raise it a little.

Another option that I personally wouldn't do because cutting a big ticket item like a hood scares me is cutting the 'cowl' on the Origin hood, fiberglassing in larger raised points and then smoothing it out. It's a lot of work but it'll keep the Origin style and fitment they're known for.

Either way, there's no easy option. Most dudes I see run it without a hood and when on the road, they just space it to keep the officers off their back.

I wonder if anyone even has actual confirmation that the Origin Type II hood will clear the VH intake manifold. I know I remember someone a few years ago tried it and said it didn't really give much more clearance than a stock hood with the skeleton removed. So many different VH setups floating around nowadays though. Maybe the right mix will make it work.

I almost think that it would be the opposite. You probably would lose space if anything.

^^^This right here. That shit was straight fire when GSRacer posted that. Any VH swap without the Cayenne manifold is incomplete to me... lol

gsracer made his own mounts and made his own headers which is why his motor sat so perfect. he barely cleared with cayenne manifold with a little bit of trimming to the vented hood

i know there is many vh installs floating around, everyone has their own way or style. i was trying to keep it OG even though theres a v8in it. but fuckin manifold, the motor is fine with the headers yada yada. i will look into that origin hood, even if it don't sit flush, I'm sure it will sit a lil lower than what it is now , hahaha, thanks all y'all!
