View Full Version : bolting tranny to block? pics?
I was looking at my tranny and noticed the spline sticks out a ways. Then looking at my block, I seem to recall the crank sticking out partially too. When I try to mentally install the flywheel, clutch, and crankshaft, it doesnt look like it will fit. Anyone have any pictures of thier blocks/trannies that I could look at? I guess I will just have to put it all back together for it to make sense, but it is baffling me ATM. ;[~

It works. I dont think the crank should stick out any. there should be a seal there with a plate with like 6 bolt holes to put the flywheel too. Just get under the car and start workin on it. Good luck tourqing the flywheel to 95 ft pounds, i had to ause a friend and a flat head srewdriver to keep it from moving.

what are the consequences if they aren't torqued correctly

It will unbolt, fly off through the bellhousing, through your firewall and chop off your legs and your soccer carreer will be over. OVER!!!
Or maybe it won't make a difference but it's always a good thing to torque down rotating items for balance.

to get the flywheel torqued back down to 105-108lbs, put one of the tranny bolts into the motor and use a very large pry bar (pressed against the bolt) to hold the flywheel from moving by the teeth. and use thread lock blue. It's important to have it torqued down right. As far as getting the tranny to go in... I just get the car up high enough and bench press that sucker. Then wiggle it around till it goes in. Nothing to it.
i guess you are right about the flywheel connection. Maybe the shaft sticking out was for the crank pulley, on the front. Some of this is new to me, others isnt. I am glad it all makes sense upstairs though, thanks. I was worries for a second that i may be "missing" something ;] peace
