Hey so I'm changing my head gasket on my ka24de and I have a question regarding how to install the cams back in. I took plenty of pictures so I know how they go and the motor is at tdc but I wanted to know if when putting the cams back in they should go back in the same exact position that they came out? In other words should the two lobes be facing away from each other? Another question is that while I had the head out and I was taking the intake manifold off all of the buckets with the shims fell out. I put them back as best I could but I'm not too sure that they went back in the exact spot. How important is it to put the same one in the original spot?

cams should go back in the exact same position. hopefully you had the engine set at tdc before you removed everything, and didn't turn the crank since then.
buckets and shims are VERY important. if you accidentally switch them from one valve to another, the valve lash could potentially be off, and you may encounter a valve that does not seat properly any more, and one that is tight/does not open fully.
you will need to measure the lash on all cylinders to make sure its within spec before running that engine. go buy a Haynes manual or Chilton and go from there.

Stock motor will probably be okay with improper shim, keep an eye on the cam wear, in the event you don't have time to reshim. Set the engine to top dead center and install the cams according to the FSM with the lobes facing away from eachother

Any tips on the fastest way to check the clearances?

TROOF. like so many things, the right way is not fast, the fast way is not right.
