This is a car related thread even though the title is what it is....

My sr20det 5 speed tranny is having a problem. I'm guessing the mileage is the same as my engine which is around 70k. I put fresh fluids in about 2 months ago and the tranny was doing amazing until today. Every gear seems to grind if I try to switch gears. If I double clutch it or take like 2-3 seconds with the clutch pressed in then shift, then it goes into gear fine. Also when I'm down shifting it shifts smooth no grinds. My TOB is bad and needs to be changed. I was just wondering if its the TOB causing my problem or something else. I plan on changing out everything with a clutch kit but I'm just curious about whats causing this problem.

I'm just going off my compression test haha

Hmm well I may have worded it wrong it does go into gear if I switch gears regularly but it just like grinds for a second like the clutch isn't being disengaged at the right time.

Sounds like a clutch issue, like it's not fully disengaging. Very possibly throw out bearing related. You need a new throw out bearing anyways, so replace it and check all related clutch components while you're in there. It's usually a good idea to replace the clutch when you're in there anyways.

It's not likely synchros, as not all synchros would go bad at the same time.

good post yes i agree clutch isn't fully coming off, input shaft still spinning too fast, making the trans harder to shift and harder to get between gears.
