As much as these crazy asses are selling the used ones for, you can get brand new ring and pinion sets for under $450 from your local nissan dealer. Also, good luck on the shims. Every single r&p is going to require different shims and every housing is going to require different shims. I've built a boatload of r200s from years of drag racing and honestly the best way to do it is just buy every single shim nissan has available (even though they are each like $22) because eventually you will use them and need them in a hurry.

Some ratios are still available, some aren't. But cheapest price I've seen starts at $450 and that doesn't even include tax and shipping. And you literally only get the ring and pinion, nothing else. So you'll be spending rape by the time you buy everything you need new from the dealership.

Bump!........

Sent you a PM.

Well, used gears will go about half of that so you will save some money for other stuufs......and well, you don't need to buy every sizes of shims because actually you can do the math on the shim sizes before going to buy them.....

I'd rather sound butt hurt than be butt hurt like yourself. I must have missed where I asked for your opinion.

Right exactly, some are and some aren't, but luckily the ones this guy wants are. I just bought a 4.636 r&p for $479.36 with tax, just under $450 new plus tax but there obviously was no shipping involved and I physically had it in my hands instead of worrying about it not coming or getting lost. Both the 4.6 and 4.3 are still available as they came in much newer cars than ours. Pretty damn nice IMO, and if you are going to be correctly measuring pinion preload and adjusting the depth then working on diff side bearing preload then working them together to get a nice pattern, you are going to be doing a lot of guess and check. I just bought 1 of everything nissan still had available that way I had what I needed (go through a lot of r&p with drag racing the high ratios).

Brand new bearings are only like $20 and $23

Well a used gear isn't going to last very long unless you make low power. And the problem is every housing is a tad different and every r&p is a tad different so you really cannot take shims from one to the next and do it 100% properly unless you get lucky. You are taking thousandths of an inch, one shim size off and you can be from out of spec to in then back out again. The biggest problem with used R&P is that they "wear" a pattern in over time, not always the ideal pattern and not the same as the next gear set. So once you remove it from it's original housing and don't pay attention to how that one wore in (pattern check) you are in the dark about the correct pattern for the next housing. All you can do is make the nicest centered pattern possible and cross your fingers. Stock-ish power you won't ever kill it... but the drag guys break them about 4x per year. I used to be a tight ass and buy used R&P but my god... it's $200... just fork out the $200 and get a perfect diff that will last you the entirety of your car, not a clunky shitbox after 15k miles. rant over !:2c:

Obviously, new parts are always better, and if you have the cash flow I always recommend that route. But don't sit here and try to convince people that the prices are not that far off compared to used prices. I just bought a set of side differential bearings new from the dealership a few weeks ago and they were $60 per side. The pinion bearing itself is around $50. The shims are about $14 each, so you better make sure you measure correctly and buy the correct thickness shims.

Well obviously you feel that way because you sell them, which I respect and understand. However in my opinion it is a better deal to buy new than buy yours given the pricing. If yours were $100 less it would be a no brainer, and everyone would buy yours. I get that you are trying to make money at it, and you are making terrific money on them, BUT it is your ass under the car getting dirty removing them and dealing with the elbow grease end, which you need to be paid for.

Now I will say this: you got HOSED on those bearings. See my above post, I listed the part numbers, those will match yours. I literaly last week bought and installed those bearings from locate ball bearings company in CA for under $50. Just because you paid double that at the dealership doesn't mean everyone else should too. And for 98% of diffs new and used, they come with brand new bearings already pressed on, so they won't need to spend $60 per side.
