View Full Version : 350Z diff in S13
How difficult is this fitment?
Is it just a matter of modifying/fabbing the upper mounts? Can I use the same rear diff cover from the J30 I am currently using? Can I use the 350Z axles?
With my 2JZ swap, I just swapped my R154 for a VQ and the ratio is way too low. I get about 100mph in 4th gear. First gear might as well not exist.
My buddy tells me the 350Z is an option, but I wanted to get opinions on difficulty before buying one.

Much better off swapping to a taller ring and pinion ratio than messing with fabricating the 350z differential into the subframe.
There's a couple options for a taller final drive.

You can get 3.69 gears from an S14/S15 SR pretty easily. The Z33 diff is 3.5 (auto is 3.3) so not a big difference considering the amount of subframe fabrication needed.

I was told the 4.08 on a JZ with CD00X trans is perfect...I'm having to go to a 3.69 because I'm staying with the R154.

Q45 is an option. Some of them even have the same 3.5 ratios. Both z and q diffs us 6x1 but the tail shaft isn't the same on a Z diff then the rest of the 90's Nissan.
Ultimately I am choosing to fab up a Z diff in my s14 cause
-I have 2 laying around
- I have a Z also with a Cusco 1.5 if I ever wanted to swap
- easier to find a Z open diff to weld then try to bastardize a Q which I only think comes in viscous.
Unless you can relate to those reason, a Q45 diff is essentially the Z r230 in a r200 frame that swaps over. Just as strong, but viscous is useless to me.

Anybody hear about the 05 pathfinder 2wd rear diff working in a s13 ? It’s a r200 series with 3.113 gearing ratio
