Running a KA and its a bit of a frankenstein motor. I have a felpro HG for it but its too small for the new bore size. Is it possible to have the actual hg bore machined by a few mm's??? Or should I take the dive and go custom????

Felpros are usually oversized.... How much over-bored is your motor?

90.5...there's definitely a noticeable overhange with the felpro.

That's really pushing the limits. You could try contacting cometic.

I've heard horror stories about cosmetic... That aside, I'd have to refinish the block and head surface for the cosmetic right?

look into cosworth, cometic is hit or miss

IIRC cosworth pulled out of KA market and they are discontinued.

I'm surprised you're more hesitant to try Cometic than Fel-Pro.

Why?
KA-t people run 600hp on felpros and they seal every time.

Regardless of manufacturer, check your prices and testimonies on either which who provide a HG made for your bore size.

It's all opinionated, everyone is always going to be divided on which is better. Price it out and decide what you want to go with. No one can decide this for you.

Cometic will make anything you need. Had one on my .060 over kade you do need a fine ra on the block and head though

That's why I love the felpros they're tough and more than adequate for my power goals, and they don't require a smoother RA. Both my head and block were machined but I can't remember if he got the RA smooth enough for a cometic/cosworth/ MLS gasket. RA is the only thing keeping me from an MLS otherwise
I'm gonna buy another felpro and have him see how far we can take the fire rings...it'd be good to know for those of us with larger bores plus it'd be a cheaper option. I only need to remove .1mm from the fire rings on the felpro. So nothing too crazy I hope.

Also a little side note. I too heard cosworth pulled out but when I checked most vendors still have them so idk?

Because my stock ka24de with a felpro hg blew and it was stock  Did I say it was stock, meaning 155 hp...stock

What do you mean my blew exactly?

My KA is still on the same felpro that has gotten hot occasionally and sees 20psi.

You must have seriously screwed up the install. I bought a whole built motor for $300 because the felpro didn't seal....because the guy didn't use the dowels to align and the gasket shifted into the cylinder.

I'm with KAT on this one. You gotta seriously F up on installation or by majorly overheating. In either case a MLS will blow too.
