View Full Version : ECCS issues. No start. Coil relay location? Bad ECU?

Inputs on the ECU were functioning, but it turned out to be the other part of the ECU that controlled outputs.

Tried another ECU and it all works fine, starts and runs.

Thanks for the help

Check the ignition switch input on pin #36. Should be battery voltage with ignition switch ON, 0V when OFF.

That's what #36 is reading: 12v @ ign on and 0v at ign off. #34 reads 0v until cranking then ~8v during cranking.

I have another bone stock ECU to try, but I'd have to switch all the hardware over which I'd prefer to avoid. I'd like to have John or someone test my current Nismotronic ECU since part of its functions are good. I'm still waiting to hear back from him...

Plugged in a bone stock ECU and it grounds the ECCS relay by itself unlike the modified one that required me to manually ground the ECCS relay so that's a step forward once I switch over the Nismotronic daughterboard and etc over to the new ECU.

I'm still not getting spark from the new ECU during cranking which may be partly it missing 1/2 the sensors it's looking for, but I'll keep hunting that down and I've yet to locate the ignition coil relay. Is that one in the engine bay fuse box?

Have you checked the relays behind the ecu? Shoved back into that little nook are 2 to 3 relays. One may be for the ECCS. I can't recall off hand at the moment, I'll look later.

I believe I've located the ECCS relay on the wiring specialties harness with continuity to it from #4 on the ECU pinout, but the coil relay appears to be alluding me somewhat.

It is a bit confusing since the EDM Silvia FSM says the ECCS relay is where you described, but idk if the USDM KA24 model is. Either way, the #4 pin goes to the relay on my WS harness and the 'new' ECU activates the ECCS relay now.

The coil relay and ECCS relay are connected so I may be mistaking one for the other I guess. WS bypassed the ignitor chip for smart coils too.

I'm trying to remember if I tested for continuity between the ECU and each coil pack, but I remember they have power and ground so I'll double check that.

600supersport - just to give you a few ideas to check...
If the ECCS circuit functions with an OEM Ecu, then its wired properly. Many ECCS circuits fail. We see tons of ECUs with them non operational.
The ECCS relay is on our harness and not on the body. You can stop looking anything auxiliary.
The issue might be with the coils not being "smart" or the wiring will be for "non smart coils" We need to see what was built for you.

Call us when you are with the car and we can troubleshoot a bit and get this pointed in the right direction in 5 minutes.

P.S. Martin at Enthalpy tuning always helps us repair the ECCS drivers on the board. Hit him up...
