When looking online it says you need to get the bell housing machined down, im wondering why. what is the reason for this? is it so the starter is in the right spot? thanks.

wellllllllllll, since you're bolting an adapter plate in, and that plate is roughly 1/2" thick, it would move the whole trans back 1/2". this would make your hydraulic system inoperable since the slave/clutch fork/throwout bearing would now also be 1/2" too far back.

Depends on what kit you run... Some kits have the bell housing machined and others come with a new bellhousing that requires you to modify the tranny further

thanks guys appreciate the responses.. does anyone know the length of the ds that is needed? i already purchased an abs length driveshaft so i was hoping to use it but i see the stock sr tranny is quite a bit longer... meaning the vq tranny's drive shaft would need to be longer.. anyone know the length?
I have both diffs, long (abs) and short nose, and a rear hub centric spacer ring... so in both id get another inch of length but i feel that wont be enough...

shaftmasters already makes driveshafts for cd009 trans in s13 or s14, with or without abs.
