If you guys are low budget and broke like me, you'll appreciate what I did. I had a track day up at Buttonwillow Raceway last Friday on Sept 17th. It was a blast and I had a ton of fun. Not wanting to forget what I did, I decided to bring a video camera. I'm not balling like most people with fancy smancy suction cup camera mounts. I'm pretty sure they're cheap, but not $5.00 cheap!

I got this idea from someone, I forget who, but this person had a pretty elaborate mount setup. I figured I could make one way cheaper and just as efficient.

The materials I used:

24'' wood stick
20'' wood stick
4x5 piece of wood
3 long screws
4 self-tapping screws
1 mounting bolt
double sided tape
drill
screw driver

The pictures are pretty self-explantory on how to make the mount:

for $4 more, you can have a metal one

less work to put it together cuz of the holes, and the camera mounts through any one of the holes too.

Yeah mine is like Driftaholic's mount, except it connects through both of my S14 seats.

I wish the seats were a little more stable though, the video I took at Thunderhill was pretty bouncy.

i made a similar mount to you, only i used 1" box aluminum tube, drilled 2 holes the size of the posts on the headrest, used some 1/4" scrap alum plate and made a plate, sandwiched 4 rubber shock mounts, and another plate together, then bought the right bolt for the camera mount screw, and away i went, the shock mounts help alot to steady the shot, ive used it at a couple of the DDays it works great, now i just need a wide angle lense.

THat's wack Kenny!...j/k

I made one that was free... and I used zipties too..

I just used an old tripod that was broken and ziptied it to the seat... worked perfect..

except... the video wasn't taht great since the angle of it was from the inside middle.. you can't really feel the car sideways and stuff.... not bad to just screw around with... I'll post a pic of it..

Norm/Brian/Ryan know the camera mount... I think they even showed it on Redline TV or something??? the camera guy thought it was the shit! lol

then I guess I'm fucked. but its pretty damn far away. if my head hits it I'm probably fucked already anyways.
also for shock mounts I spent like $30 at ritz camera and bought fluid filled damper tripod top.

Buy S14 seats, your passengers will be happy, and then buy yourself a tight bucket seat.

Hmm might have to take a trip to Home Depot or something before this weekend.

Thanks for the responses. The video I made didn't turn out so well as I hoped. Not because of the mount though. The mount was very steady and solid. Plus also, the camera had image stablization, so that took care of the harsh driving. I'm running 10kg/8kg suspension and everytime I strayed off course, the video did get a little wobbley. The reason why the video didn't turn out so well was because I shot most of it during 11:00am-1:00pm. The images are super bright and the contrast is way off. It was my first time making a video.. blah~ live and learn. Next event I suppose. I'll post the video at a later time, maybe.

The reason why I didn't use metal was because I find that working with wood is easier. The whole idea was the make something up in 5 minutes with simple plyable materials while keeping my costs low. No matter what you use, wood, metal or zipties/duct tape. The bottomline; if it gets the job done, I'm not complaining..

A long time ago, I put my camera on a tripod, then bungee-corded it to my rear strut bar. Somehow, it was helluva stable and I passed tech. I haven't been able to duplicate the stability from that day yet, but the seat mounted cam works nicely..
