Leaning steering rack back?

So when the steering rack is relocated forwards, I've heard of some people "leaning" their steering rack backwards to help reach the OEM steering linkage on the steering column.

Is anyone familiar with how to do this? Does one have to make a new bracket/collar for the "triangular" side? Or is it okay for the steering track's shape to not match the bracket/dollar's shape?

I'm seriously debating on whether or not to make a new bracket with the triangular shape in a location closer to the rack depending on the amount of lean in the rack, since the design is simple enough.

just hoped there was more info about this subject somewhere

You would have to actually cut, clock the mounts, and reweld them back. I just relocated mine myself about 20mm. You really don't need to lean it back. It fits fine.

To further explain this "want" to lean the rack back: basically with the current location of my rack mounts, the pinion housing of the steering rack is touching the crossmsmber where the engine mount is, so that the rack cannot rotate any further upwards to oem angle to match bracket.

So with he rack 25mm forward do you think the steering,column linkage will still reach okay at the oem angle?

If you can get me a picture I can better answer the question. At oem angle you don't need to relocat the rack. The reason for the relocation is with modded knuckles that increase angle you run in to over centering. It's kind of like your knee joint. It has its range of motion in functuons well in, when hyperextended it it doesn't want to go back in place easily. With your rack when over centered the steering wheel get hard to turn then will pop in to full lock. When this happens it makes it equal as hard to turn back. It is managible once your use to it just hard to tandem with others cars because it's unpredictable

It sounds like you are beyond 25mm forward of stock if you are having to 'clock' the rack mounts. Also, to answer your question, the steering column itself is collapsible so it can be lengthened or even shortened as needed.

Yeah what he said. You only cut a little bit out. If the linkage doesn't reach you probably need another crossmember. As far as outlets reaching your knuckles, they should if you adjust them farther out
