Hey everybody wondering if i can get some input about my current headache. Before i start i really dont need to get flamed here, yes i have tried researching but couldnt find anything about my particular problem.

Im doing a s13 blacktop sr swap into my 98 s14. It has abs and vlsd. I ordered a driveshaft from the driveshaftshop through frsport and finally got to putting it on. I ordered a s14 steel driveshaft with abs. I finally got to putting it on and it doesnt fit. Its to long. At first i thought it wasnt going in all the way but i think it is. The u-joint is like 3/8inches away from end of tranny. The driveshaft is a little less than 1/2 an inch to long. At this point i thoight they sent me the wrong one since non abs is a bit longer. But i looked at the box and its the right one. Theres no real way to confirm this because the driveshaft doesnt really have a part number on it.

Anyway i looked up lengths of what it should be and in the process I looked up the part again on frsport. And it actually has the full length listed. With abs from tip to tip the drive shaft is supposed to be 49.25 inches. So i measure mine from tip to tip and it was actually slightly shorter about 49 even. So now im really confused because it seems it is the right one but it doesnt fit. It says the thing is for KA/sr20 so i assume it was for all sr20 and they dont specify on none of there driveshafts which sr it is. But maybe it has something to do with a s13 driveshaft into s14? I dont know guys ill post some pics tomorrow if i get feed back, of me test fitting it but ive tried a dozen times and it doesnt go any further into the tranny. Lmk guys maybe im forgetting something stupid but ive puzzled over it for half the day. Im goig to try contacting the driveshaft shop monday to see if i can get any info.

There are 4 different driveshaft lengths depending on the setup. Here are the four possible lengths:

#1: Non-ABS, 5-Speed
#2: Non-ABS, Automatic
#3: ABS, 5-Speed
#4: ABS, Automatic

I don't know the lengths of each but there's a good chance it is incorrect.

My only question is did you remove the dust shield around the tail shaft of the transmission? That is usually required with a 1-piece replacement.

I got a abs 5-speed one. I didnt remove the dust shield. I didnt know that was a requirment for one piece. If so that kinda sucks how do you keep dust out. And i actually tried a little to remove it and its pretty hard how do you go about doing that?

Ok peeps ive tried everything to get this thing in and it is really frustrating. Ive tried twisting and turning it, i removed the dust boot on the end and it still only goes in partially.

Heres some pics of it going in as far as it will go. And a pic of the end by the diffhttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160404/8727edc6e31605be7a1b3a46389086b6.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160404/d914e828fb7241178ffd4848769433da.jpg

Could really use some advice. I know its not supposed to go all the way in but it should be capable of doing so. I just need it to go in like a half inch more. I shined a light into the tansmission end and it doesnt appear like anything obstructs it. Ive stuck a small wire in it and it goes in pretty far, more than what my driveshaft is going in

Looks like the driveshaft is too long. I don't think it can go into the transmission much more than that... Been awhile since I've installed mine.

You sure you have vlsd?

Yeah im pretty sure. Even if it was an open diff then i would probably not have this problem becuase driveshafts without vlsd/abs use a longer driveshaft then ones with abs/vlsd. My problem would more likely be that i have the wrong driveshaft. Which as i explained in the beginning isnt likely becuase I measured it and its within spec of the abs/vlsd driveshaft

Non abs DS And a vlsd is what I'm guessing

Yeah thats what i thought, that they sent me the wrong one. But according to frsport the abs driveshaft is supposed to be 49.25 inches. When i measured it from tip to tip (the end of the flat side of u-joint to the tip of spline) it was actually shy of 49.25, closer to 49 even. The abs drivehaft is supposed to be 50inches.

Exactly. If you have an open diff it would make your driveshaft too long. The snout length is different

No the open diff requires a longer ds. Abs ds are shorter. Reason is the abs sensor or whatever is in the pumpkin and makes it longer which means the driveshaft has to be shorter. You have it backwards

ABS driveshaft is shorter but you probably received a Non-ABS driveshaft, regardless of what the measurements say. That's my guess.
