I'm curious how the S15 ring gear is bolted to an s13 differential? I know they make special bolts to bolt up an s13/14 ring gear to the s15 helical differential, since the bolts have a larger shoulder.

But when doing the opposite, it's not really possible to have a bolt with a shoulder that is smaller than the thread diameter?

EDIT: looks like s15 and s13 ring gears are both 12mm thread. Just the s15 hlsd uses the 13mm shank instead of the 12mm shank like the s13.
So, the stock s13 ring gear bolts should work perfectly with an s15 ring gear on s13 differential?

Wrong. 3.692 uses M13 ring gear bolts. The only reason you have to go to the special Nismo bolts is when you use a ring gear like our stock 4.083 ring gears that use M12 bolts. The S15 HLSD has holes sized for M13 ring gear bolts.

So using a stock differential with the 3.692 ring gear you will need to take a drill and bore out the holes 1mm to fit the larger M13 bolts.

Are you sure the s15 ring gear doesn't use 12mm thread bolts? i don't get why the oem s15 ring gear bolts on FRSport are 12mm thread and 13mm shank.

Yes, those are for using the stock 4.083 ring gear which uses M12 bolts. I've had over 10 sets of S15 ring gears in my possession and they all have M13 bolts. FRSport has those listed as OEM but they are Nismo. The stock OEM bolts that come on all S15 HLSD w/ 3.692 ring gears use Nissan part #: 38102-10V00, which is an M13 bolt.

So why the hell label them as "oem s15 ring gear bolts" when they aren't that at all.. Should say "oem Nissan bolts for s13/14 ring on s15 hlsd"...

Not uncommon for these retailers to make simple mistakes such as this one. Especially if they don't entirely know.

Yeah I guess. Shouldn't be too difficult to have the differential center drilled to 13mm bolt holes?

Drill press should make quick work of it. Or you can go the easier more expensive route, either buy a VLSD w/ M13 bolt holes or S15 HLSD. Both of which I have available for sale. :)
