UPDATE (8/18): www.tunrex.com has been redesigned with new features. More info here (http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?p=6103383#post6103383)

Hey zilvians,

I built Tuner Exchange (https://www.tunrex.com), a platform to buy & sell high quality Japanese parts. I'm allowing the sale of all Japanese automotive parts (however no replica wheels/aero allowed). A fully functional beta version has just gone live, and I’m looking for your feedback. I'd like to hear what you think of the:

Overall concept
Signing up,
Adding parts to the site, and
Any issues you ran into.

Go to www.tunrex.com , click on sign up and let me know what you think! (It's free to use)

I based the site off my interactions with sellers on my various IGs @jdm_nissan_parts (https://www.instagram.com/jdm_nissan_parts/) @jdm_honda_parts (https://www.instagram.com/jdm_honda_parts/) @jdm_toyota_parts (https://www.instagram.com/jdm_toyota_parts/) I even helped some zilvia members here too. I hope this site will help you guys out too!

Great idea. Not sure if it already exists (can't say I've heard of it but I've been out of the car scene loop for some time) but I think its a solid idea.

There's a broken image on the homepage. Minor.

Next thing you should do is figure out how to generate money.

Good luck.

Thanks! Glad to hear you like the concept.

I took a look at the page and everything came up for me. Was the broken image in the Recent Products section by any chance?

Eventually I'll charge a small service fee. But for now I'm willing to put the money aspect on hold while I build the community and perfect the service/site.

I tried signing up and it gave me a message about something that had to do with anti-spam. I used a different username and it worked.

Hmmm...I"ll look into that.

(BTW I'm in silver spring too! I need to update my location sigh)

I read the faqs and it seems like a good idea. It's like another ebay

I would definitely continue adding more makes to the list. other than that we just have to wait on people to list shit

bboyoracle
03-28-2016, 08:11 PM
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the concept is similar, but this way you don't have to sift through tons of unrelated posts to get to the car parts you're looking for. ( i.e., when I used to have a Honda and searched for "mugen" on ebay i would find Mugen RC cars and anime? lol )

But most importantly, I see this as being a central location to share/find parts for automotive enthusiasts.

I'm keeping the makes to a minimum for the moment as It builds momentum. But I agree more makes should be added in the future.

on fire fox and chrome it still says "coming soon" when i tried it. works on safari though.

-when i scroll down the page page jumps once the top bar with the social media icons and cart are off the screen.
-the navigation bar is really thick and takes up over a quarter of the screen on this dinky macbook air i'm using. i'd suggest putting the logo to the left hand side instead of centered above the nav. also, i'd recommend having the bar disappear all together once you scroll down for maximum part viewing space.
-i'd add a tumblr sharing option.
-as for a fee, either start with it at the beginning or don't bother. if you add it later on you'll piss off all of your users. you could do something like vimeo does. they limit how large of files you are allowed to upload per week, but instead you could just limit how many items accounts are able to sell per week/month/whatever depending on what level membership they are (free, plus, pro, whatever you want to call them).

cool though, i had a similar idea years ago, but never acted on it, glad you did it haha

bboyoracle
03-29-2016, 09:09 AM
Thanks deolio for taking the time to check it out.

-That's happening because the sticky menu is fixing itself to the top of the screen, and the transition is not smooth so it appears jumpy. I don't think there is anything I can do about it :( but I'll check it out.
-You're right! I brought the menu in tighter so its not thick.
-Serious question: is tumblr still a thing? especially around the car community? I don't really use it so i have no idea.
-My intention is not to piss people off. But I also don't want to charge people right out of the gate as I'm still working out the kinks and would like people to have a chance to experience it for free. I do like your membership approach though! I'll take that into consideration when the time comes.

That's awesome! I'd love to hear more about your idea. Shoot me a PM if you are willing to share.

I love this!! Zilvia should port this over and make this there in website For Sale section. Bimmerforums does something similar with a site called Panjo Marketplace.

bboyoracle

I've never heard of Panjo Marketplace until today! I'm checking it out now. Thanks for sharing that.

And I'd be down with making Tuner Exchange zilvia's main marketplace ;)

Keep it independent, keep it fresh. It would have been cool to integrate back in the day, but Zilvia is a ship with a slow leak that's just waiting to sink.

+1 for RHD Japan only place I could get the filter in the color I wanted.

Maybe try and hook up with them for a co-op and better market share. You handle Domestic while they handle International.

First it's car parts then it's the world...

I found everything simple and easy from signing up and posting for sale.

That pains me to hear. In the past years I have bought so much from the marketplace here, but sales from forums are slowly dying. And now making their way to facebook groups, which can be chaos. That's what actually led me to build this, I wanted a more efficient way of selling without the crazy bumps, irrelevant content and trolls.

That MGS font logo is JDM.

Close lol It was actually something a graphic designer put together and was inspired by AKIRA. He has some pretty cool stuff, especially his art of rappers (redman, ice cube, eminem etc).

Check him out: http://keebs.com/

I like that idea. I bought my Origin carbon fiber rear delete and multiple other parts from RHDJapan years ago. I'm happy to see they are still going strong.

But I'd like to perfect domestic first...then comes the world :trogdor: (I wonder if anyone knows where this emoticon is from POINTS IF YOU DO)

That's what I'm looking to hear! Thanks for taking the leap to add something.

BTW I saw your product description, and liked how you mentioned your feedback. I suggest taking a screenshot of your zilvia feedback and using it as your store banner! That way when people click on your name they'll see you're a reputable seller.

THIS!!!!!!

I was working on posting up a sale ad earlier but had to play dad. One thing i did notice is that when uploading images to my gallery, the site does not automatically resize/downscale the images. If you can, i would suggest implementing a script of some sort that can scale images down to like 800x600 pixels. It should save you server space and make uploads for users far quicker.

Also, I was not able to delete the images once they were uploaded. The "-" on the thumbnails was not performing it's function.

Other than that, it is running beautifully on FireFox. I can't say the same about the iPad, but that's a whole different animal.

Good work so far man, I love this idea so much.

Make a sister site for parts in general. Allow users to search parts diagrams Ã* la courtesy parts and allow sellers to list in sections. I want to do this but I hate web dev.

I really like the concept.
Seems like a good filter to the endless OEM stuff we have on here.

the only issue i had was in the wheels section the different sizes of wheels when clicked on did nothing. Now, i don't know if that was because there isn't anything there to filter, but figured id let you know. Ill sign up when i'm home from work!

I've also got a bunch of old iPods, and tabletes so i will test the site on them too

-I'm running a plugin for now to help with uploads. If the uploads become slower overtime I'll look into other options
-On the "-" bit, that's a default function. It's disabled so that the seller doesn't delete and break images throughout the site

Happy to hear you love the idea. I have been working on it for months now, lots of ups and downs. So it means a lot.

Yep you hit the nail on the head. There's nothing posted yet for wheels :)

Sweet! All functions, including uploading pictures exist with mobile options. So i'm hoping it works well on your end!

You were correct, it wasn't filtering because there were no wheels posted. I posted mine up and it seems to be filtering as it should.

Hey guys!

Just wanted to update the thread. The site is now live and no longer in Beta:

www.tunrex.com

Thanks to your feedback I have made several improvements. Some of which include:

A new page detailing how to sell: http://tunrex.com/sell/
Improved display on shop page: Larger images and title limitations

I will be advertising it more in the coming days. Thanks for your help Zilvia:bowdown:

UPDATE

I recently redesigned the site. Unfortunately with the redesign, i was unable to keep existing registration and profile information. So if you signed up previously, click here (https://www.tunrex.com/en/login) to set up a new account.

The new site now has quick-and-simple listing, Google Map feature, messaging system and more. I'm also excited about Tuner Exchange Finds, where I hand select parts for sale and showcase them as listings.

Go to www.tunrex.com! It's free to use, so it doesn't hurt to create an account and start posting your Japanese car parts.

so ebay/craigslist site ?

bboyoracle
08-19-2016, 09:08 AM
Closer to craigslist at the moment. But created for enthusiasts of high-quality Japanese vehicles. I figured this is easier than sifting through junk listings.

Payments are done off the site. So through chat, sellers can discuss which ever method of payment they prefer.

bboyoracle
08-19-2016, 11:50 AM
Yeah you're right, and I think it will be good for a local sale. There is a 'Cars and Motors' category on letgo. And I assume that's where car parts would be listed. Everything from Alfa Romeo to Deloreons. But the question would arise, can people find your parts? And are you selling to the right crowd?

Tuner Exchange will solve those problems :)

The site is still progressing forward, new members joining everyday and my focus has been on helping folks get their parts out there ( i.e., here, craigslist, facebook etc)

I have been speaking to members daily and receiving lots of great feedback. Feel free to reach out with any of your ideas, I'm always open to hear them.
