Best tire size for a 16x8 rims

I have a few questions: first I had 235/45/17 on the car (92 fastback) but it rubbed the fenders etc really bad when turning. This is how it looked

As you can see, the wheel gap is very minimal. Since it rubbed, I am getting 16 inch rims to kind of offset that w/o having to raise the car.

My questions are, what would be the best sized tire OVERALL for a 16x8 for tracking/drifting? I'm not looking for stance.. Should the rim have an offset to help avoid rubbing? The offsets come in +20 or +0... What alignment specs would be best?

2. put the 17s back on and get 215/40s or 45s. 235/45 is pretty damn large.

That's the size the pervious owner had on.. Why 17s? I guess I'll ask the wheel fitment thread...

lesson number one, research on your own first, this way you are not asking for handouts.

lesson number two, take the stuff you "heard" on the net with a grain of salt. instead, go by facts. facts are things like: procedures in the factory service manuals. or, the basics of how to read the markings on your tire sidewall (tire sizes). no one fucks with you if you take the time to learn that. it applies to everything: engine building, suspension, tires, etc. learn the facts.

there are a lot of reasons your wheel/tire setup can rub. dumbass before you chose the wrong offset. or chose the wrong tire size. or your suspension settings are off.

it would be of interest to you to make sure your alignment is OK. and second, it would be of interest to you to use a tire calculator and compare what size you have now with what size originally fit your car.

with a 16, you're looking at 225-50 and 245-45..

ps: i advise you make friends with other people your age that are on this forum and or starting out. the good thing is these friendships really last a long time. i am friends with people i met in the 240sx community and for 10+ years, you learn a lot along the way

So Im a noob to 240s. I've been working on Subarus all my life... Never had this problem w a car b/c I've kept them ground clearance pretty close to stock w them.... Anyway..

Of course I'll get an alignment after I get new tires. Stockers are currently on b/c the rubbing was just insane.

What offset would be good. I guess I couldn't go wrong w/a +0

I run 195/55's on 15x8's and it's not much of a stretch. I run the same on 15x9's if I have them, but I try to run 205/50's on them.

As far as alignment specs for drifting, I keep mine around -3.5* camber 0* toe in the front, and no more than -1* camber 0* toe in the rear. Not only will having only a little camber in the year give you more even tire wear, meaning longer lasting tires, but it also gives you grip which makes more more consistent skidzzz. I run a stock NA KA with lw fw and 248/232 cams and can do third gear entries all day, so the added grip isn't a problem.

Because the tire selection and pricing sucks ass for 16s. Much wider options at a cheaper price for 17s, 15s, or 18s.

The previous owner was a dingus. No reason to have tires that tall on a 17. 235/45/17 is about 20mm taller then the factory tire of 205/60/15. Dumb dumb dumb

Makes sense. I believe 2 of those rims are bent too. I don't think fixing them would be worth it. Which is another reason I was looking for rims...

Get something like 17x9 +25 with 235/40. 16s have poor tire choices

I never felt so. 16's are a great compromise between 15 and 17, where you can still get something relatively wide enough like a 245. I dont recall too many wide tire options for 15 unless you start talking R compound.

I agree. But on a stock body S13, 245 is about as wide as you can go before you start hitting things or doing dumb shit like super negative camber.

Thats because "kid" still needs to learn how to use a tire size calculator. You know, learning how to use EXCEL, inputting tire size data off of tire rack, thats all very heavy for someone who's 16 and ready to hit the track. :-)

Oh...do Subarus not have wheels? I'm running 16x8+0 and all the assholes on here tell me I should have 17s. No one likes 16s. If you want tire info just shoot me a PM.
