View Full Version : Turbo oil feed fitting not sitting flush

Hello,
I have an s15 garrett bb turbo, the oil restrictor does not fit flush, i want to make sure it wont leak. It seems to have a decent amount of thread engagement.

Have you tried looking for another shorter restrictor? Another option is to check with your turbo manufacturer to see if you can use a type of thread sealer in there.

They are supposed to have crush washer in there...is there something blocking it?

It should be fine if you use some thread locker on it. My oil feed restrictor sits the same way on my t25 and it doesn't leak. Is that a P2M restrictor? I had one and it got stripped when I tried to thread it into my s15 t28. I need to clean up the threads.

Yeah it is a p2m restrictor. Literally the only restrictor I could find that is -3an. There is a tube inside the that prevents the restrictor from being fastened any more than this. So im assuming its probably going to leak? Sorry for the resolution.

The tube inside is another oil restrictor pin, but as long as you have the P2M fitting sealed with sealant, it shouldn't leak.

My restrictor was also too long. It's supposed to use a crush washer but doesn't thread in far enough to create the seal. However, it doesn't leak. I thought that was strange since they are straight threads and not tapered. It must be pressed up against the pin posted above hard enough to seal.

The fitting in an Inverted Flare, (Think Brake line fittings) there is no need to a washer or sealant. The flare is the seal.

So youre saying that i should be fine without any sealant? And i shouldnt torque it too hard to strip the threads?

As long as your threads have full engagement and are the correct pitch you wont have an issue, that piece looks fairly generic so it probably wont sit perfectly into the turbine housing.

My restrictor was also too long... However, it doesn't leak.

If you want to be 100% sure, take the fitting back off, look inside the opening and you should see a cone protruding out like a pyramid. Then on the fitting, you should see a convex cone. If you see both of those, then it's inverted flare and you're set. German Gudentite torque should be enough to hold the seal. Inverted flare seals on the flare, not the threads so putting anything on threads won't help.

Prior post is correct no washer or sealant is needed since the fitting creates a flared seal with the turbo. Once you hand tightened the bolt where you felt the restrictor is bottoming out against the the turbo just hand torque it a bit more and it will be tight. The other thing to look for is when you tighten the turbo oil line to the same fitting make sure you double wrench it so that you don't over torque the restrictor and strip the fitting.
