Will single 16" fan fit/be enough on my KA24DE?

Hey everyone,

My mechanical fan has been missing a blade for a while. Now, the shroud lost a bolt and slipped down, so the mechanical fan ate a big hole in it (and destroyed most of the blades). Also the electrical A/C fan has lost it's mounting and is loose, touching the shroud and mech fan :(. So I am going to rip all three things out, and replace with this:

According to the ebay auc, it's a 16"Lx16.6Wx3.75"D. It also apparently pulls 3025 CFM w/ 11amps. This seems to be as much as the dual 12" FAL setup -- but instead of $200+ it's about $50 with $15 shipping.

My questions are:

1) Will this fan fit onto the stock KA24DE radiator?

2) Will this fan provide more than enough cooling, especially if I wire it on a thermo switch?

3) Will this fan be sufficient on a Koyo and a rb20det swap?

I ask the final question because I have a rb20det swap planned for the end of this year, but I don't want to replace stuff that I'm buying now. I want to buy one fan (or set of fans) that will work on both motors. Just curious if this sucker will offer enough cooling?

that will not fit. measure your rad! its about 14" tall by 25 1/8" wide. nothing past a 14" fan will work. if you are worried about cooling just get the FAL 220's. its a dual fan setup that will fit over the entire rad. if you do not want to spend $240, goto the junkyard and pick up the altima electric fans. they are dual fans that fit our rad.

for a good e-fan set up you need

proper shrouding!
thermostat

most of the aftermarket fans draw enough air to cool down the engine when there's not much airflow as long as it comes on before the engine gets too hot.

aaron cake's rx7 website has a good writeup on it. go look it up.

I've read the RX7 guy's site a few times in the past, it's an alright resource if you know nothing about cooling and want to learn.

I don't want to measure the radiator, I'm at work, so that's why I asked on here. I figured it was close to 16", so I'll either find a smaller single fan, or see if I can find a decent set of electric duals for less than $100.

I've read the FAL220 wont fit with the KA24DE stock radiator and that there is some minor modification needed. Either of you guys have the FALs on a stock DE radiator?

Edit: I found quite a few sets of 93-97 altima fans on ebay. They are all $90 to $125

some ppl posted their setups in there. off the top of my head (ka, right?):

no clue on fal220 + stock rad
the fal210 fits on the koyo
stanza e-fan fits stock rad
altima e-fan fits stock rad

iirc with the right setup it seemed any of these fans were fine.

just a question out of curiousity, why go cheap on a part that protects a much more expensive part (motor)? id pay the 240$ and be done w/ it

Fal220+210 are the same aside from the 210 having an adjustable thermostat.

what is it with e-fans? i went through many setups and you know what? the best results came from oem clutch fan/shroud/oem e-fan. i actually bought a nice radiator and could get by with just my old e-fans, but i went out and bought oem clutch and e-fan. forget the power loss, do you know how little of actual work those e-fans do at 5000 rpm? you think a fan not moving the speed of the motor is going to cool down your radiator if you're doing something around 5k rpm for awhile? i dunno, maybe you guys have some sort of magical luck. but every drift comp my car overheated. now, i can drift with a/c on and stay under 180 F for multiple runs at a time.

drifting is different from driving at 5k. if your mainly race your car i think an e-fan is the way to go, only on at idle. when drifting less air is getting into the bay, so the clutch fan works great.

ah, i c what you mean. yes it did work fine in all situations but drifting however (no clutch fan/aftermarket e-fan).
