View Full Version : Shiftboot Trim Falling Apart S14

I picked up a new OEM shiftboot trim when I did my auto to manual swap almost two years ago. Recently I noticed the boot had separated from the plastic trim. When I popped the trim off to investigate it looks like there's a plastic ring that sandwiches the boot with the trim. This ring was held in place by really thin plastic studs and locking clips. It looks like all of these studs have broken.
Any ideas on how I can secure the boot in place? It seems kind of crappy a new OEM part failed so quickly.
Below is a pic of the studs that have broken off.

And how everything looked right after the swap

If you can hot glue or epoxy the boot to the Trim minus the studs
^^ what he said. You can use jb weld, or something similar.
Alternatively, I'm pretty sure FRSPORT has them BNIB for pretty cheap

Same thing happened to me the other day...my trim is less than a year old.
My phone fell onto the boot right while I was shifting into 4th, the knob pushing down on the phone broke 3 out of 4 of those stupid posts.

Went after it with a hot glue gun. We'll see how well it holds up.
Seems like a crappy design.

Mine did the same thing exactly 1 year after installing it. Another shitty 90's design.
Definitely seems like a poor 90s design, but the s13 trim/boot is more sturdy IMO.....

Same thing happened to mine, hot glue held for a little while. Looking for a better alternative myself.

I vaguely remember my old S13 boot ring being screwed to the trim piece. I wonder if this is a recent Nissan design revision, considering at least 2 or 3 others have chimed in that their "new" OEM part has done the same thing.
Curious what an original 20 year old trim looks like.

Same problem here with mine, after almost two years running without the trim piece decided to finally get one and I noticed about a year later, that the same plasitc clips had broke...I was thinking of just plastic welding the two pieces together but its just one of those little things that you just say your gonna do it one day but that one day never comes and you just forget about it lol :keke:

Solution:
1. Buy new trim piece.
2. Install new trim piece.
3. Never remove trim piece. (Which 80% of us can't do because there's always something wrong with a 240sx.)

Plastic weld should do the trick.

It's a $60 part new. Buy a new one.
You gotta expect after 20 years to replace a few things. That shift boot is moving every time you get in the car and use it.

Maybe I need to be more clear, this was a brand new part that broke after less than two years. How often should I have to buy a new part?

I broke a brand new one trying to swap out the boot. Those little pegs are really fragile. Your best bet is glue gun or buy a new one.
