well my car is in absolutely horrendous shape. the front end is a different color than the car, the front fenders and hood are bare metal, the spoiler is falling off, blah blah blah, it looks like ass your just going to have to trust me. well i pretty much have enough money to either do body work and get a paint job, or say fuck it and do the more fun thing and throw all that money into making it faster. if i went with the bigger turbo and all that such, i'd do some minor body work and then just spray it flat black. the only reason i dont really want to do that is because of sport compact car. i dont want to seem like a trend whore or anything along those lines. but the car is just straight up embarassing to drive right now. bah! what would you do?

Paint it, you'll feel better looking at it every morning.

Who cares if people think you're a trend whore or not. I'd make it faster unless there is rust and such that you should repair now. If there is I'd go with body work so later, when I got to the power, there would be a chassis to push around.

rust is only on the hatch which is going to get swapped as soon as i find one in decent shape. im also just worried about blowing the sr after the turbo and all that then being in the hole big time. bah!

Then I would go with power. But that's just me.

Why do people act like flat black is the only color that comes in a spray can?
I think people just do flat black because they think if they try a normal color and screw up it will look shitty...
Well, I have unfortunate news for you - even if you spray it masterfully, flat black still looks shitty.

Edit: Actually, the more I think about it, I think it's more along the lines that people don't want to be seen as someone who cares about how their car looks when it's in that type of condition. Let's face it, spraypainted cars, no matter what color, are ghetto... And it's cooler to be perceived as someone who ghetto-painted their car because they don't care what it looks like, rather than someone who ghetto-painted their car because they care about what it looks like but don't have or don't want to spend the money for a normal paintjob.
The solution? Make your car fast, and paint it with these:

Only 99 cents a case man. MAUVE. It doesn't get any cheaper or careless than that. :hyper:

My car has been 3 colors for three years. $12,000 later it has a rb26, but is still 3 colors.
Its up to you, park in backwards, or have fun.

my newly aquired s14 is goin to be a plethora of color after I clean up the body work an instead of paint,I am investing in coilovers! I plan in the near future for a flat paint job,but one unlike any s14 owner can fathom doin to their precious s14's! :mepoke:

It really depends on what you want to do more.
My fast back is two colors right now and its banged up to shit but I am more concerned with rebuilding my motor and upgrading the turbo right now than painting it one color and making it look good. I do wish it was all one color though...

im in the same situation as you.. my body is all screwed.. have alot of goodies ready to be dropped into the car.. everyone tells me to put everything and worry about body later.. but i just cant feel comfortable with a crappy looking car, none the less going on dates with it.. so im planing to buy some sick wheels first since i need to replace my tires, might as well do it at once.. at least wheels will make the car look a little better then my 3 hubcap steelies rifght now..

make it faster...when people look at your car and laugh, you look back, smoke them, and laugh

looks = who cares.
but if you have exposed metal, and lots of rust, definitely do a little work to get that patched up. primer the metal and sand that rust off!

ok, heres what you do, get a bunch of sand paper, and sand your whole car, then talk to a macco or watever and just have them spray the car primer or whatever, it will be cheap, and look better than rattle can.

Im having the same dilema...paint on hood and front bumper is flaking off (actually the clear coat is). Looks horrible. But its nice to have a car without nice paint cause you dont really have to give a shit about washing or parking under trees, mud, etc. You just let rain wash the thing. Besides the color is factory burgundy (maroon, whatever, ugly) which I hate, so I'll be changing the car color all together which ends up making the paint price skyrocket, thanks to the engine bay, door jams, and trunk all being extra...

Just do what you can yourself. Power's more important to you, then invest the cash there. Invest spare time making sure your car doesn't go to hell. I think I'm either going to do a flat blue like the Le Mans R33 GT-R (but without gloss, just a coat of clear, maybe) Either that, or F the paint, and keep faded red, because red is faster than blue. :ghey: Do what you can with your budget, just keep in mind that you always save money doing shit yourself. I'm sure not to far in the future is a "Home made paint job" thread. That's the next "trend" only because it's a smart and budget savvy thing to do if you don't give a damn about the looks, so long as it's one color. :coold:

it was nice to hear not bashing on just making the car one solid color. so as soon as my other car is sold, power will be on the way and the 240 will be much more fun. this bitch will be bad =)
now i just have to figure out what manifold and turbo to use....

this is where i was like "wtf?"
, just a coat of clear, maybe)
this is where "wtf" turned into "what a newb".
woot, there are two ways to do things:
1 good enough
2 the right way
obviously it isn't your bag to have car that looks like dogpoop and is quick or you wouldn't have made this thread. paint her if she's been good to ya.
it feels freakin great seein her with that showroom shine again, dude. screw that faggot flat black trend unless you truly don't care (or its a race car). take out a loan and get her done up in some sexy freshness :)

just get all engine work done and then paint it...it probably wouldnt be too fun having a new paint job and then having to rip things apart under the hood. Id do that and then paint it later whern you can afford it. i'm workign on the swap now and then im battling the rustmonster thats hiding from me. Then a self done paintjob in my friends paint booth

Yea, I would finish the major engine work and move on to getting the body in some acceptable state of affairs...If you like multi colored cars, get a two-tone paint job!!!

its allready a 3 tone :p

Here's my take on the situation:
If you have any body kits on it, paint it. Cars with unpainted body kits are the ONLY THING that can look worse than cars with lame body kits.
Other than that. . . do as you wish. I am going to repaint mine before I do any power-- but that's mainly 'cause I'm pretty damn satisfied with her as she is :-)
Speaking of which, where's a good place to get factory-esque automotive paint? I'm a cheap bastard, so keep that in mind when you answer :-)
