What are your guys opinions on lightweight pulleys?
Crank and accessory drive pulleys
My crank pulley i noticed had some chips on it so i want to replace it. Was browsing and seeing what was available and came across pulleys on ebay
http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=221616414922&alt=web
What are the pros/cons of these? Also saw a lot of accessory pulley sets available

Back in the day when I was FWD Unorthodox was a good manufacturer and I had a full set of under drive pulleys, that along with a light weight flywheel. IDK if it did much, but I do know it revved much quicker and RPM came back down quicker. Fast-forward until today, i think i read somewhere that unless your motor is built , the light weight accs. actually takes away from TQ (momentum) of the engine.

Start with the wheels and tires, then lighten the driveshaft, then the flywheel, then if you can still stomach even more you can throw some lightweight pulleys or knife edge the crankshaft into the mix. If the car is auto, it should be much more fun to drive with all that lightweight stuff. If the car itself is light also, that really helps with drivability. However, trying to move a heavy vehicle with a lightweight rotating assembly in front of a clutch can be annoying.

No, actually. You want people to agree with you that it is a good idea.
Let's see what we can gather from that ad.
1/ it is on ebay
2/ it is cheap
3/ seller has "speed" in its name
4/ seller claims you are going to get more power
5/ it has no balancer. You do know that pulley is called "balancer", right ?
6/ hmmm SHINEYYYYYYYYY
Yeah, nothing could go wrong really.
Want a good pulley ? Get one from fluidampr. There is a reason they are worth 4 times that cheapass pulley.

No i wanted to see what people's opinions are and maybe someone who might have actual experience with it.
I actually linked the wrong one but looks similar. Other ones i looked at say cnc machined and balanced yet didnt appear to have any dampener. I was looking for an oem and came across these other ones but probably going with ati. If there was possibly a cheaper alternative with good results im interested in that as well.
Idk when everyone on zilvia became so uptight :ugh:

You want some opinion, here's mine:
Saw a part out thread because some dudes main bearings went to shit on his SR and had some issues with the bottom end.
.
Had some garbage ass ebay crank pulley on there. discussions ensued.
Coincidence? Maybe? I have no idea.
Don't waste your money.

Sorry... actually zilvia has become very polarized.
On one hand, idiots who believe cheapass junk from china will do the job;
on the other hand, grown up idiots who understood, sometimes the hard way, that it does not.
At some point people grow tired of repeating the same thing and end up doing so aggressively.
Anyway, OEM is "cheap", around 300$ i believe. Ati and fluidampr are a bit more. The only cheap WORKING option is GWO second hand pulley.

Spend the extra money on a new oem one...the lightweight do not remove engine vibrations and will damage bearings and cause leaks

My friend bought a sr with a cheapbay pulley on it.
It was one of those aluminum bs pulleys.
Replaced front main seal three times car still leaked oil.
Also bearings were wore out in it when we finally removed it.
Another friend bought a s13 with a ka.
The week before he bought it seller said car developed bad rod knock.
Car also has a cheapbay godspeed bs pulley on it.
Think about it like this. A car has shocks on it to dampen vibrations and resonance in springs
With out them the car will continue to bounce throwing off balance after its already gone past the road imperfection.
Know think about your engine. You have metal parts (crank, piston rods) moving up and down at great speed. Over time the moving parts will develop a "resonance" ( parts move slightly different frequency then others) that will wear out the piston rod bearings and crankshaft bearings also known as mains. When that happens your engine develops rod knock, and miss shaped crankshaft.
Do yourself ,or future owner a favor. Dont buy it.
P.S. Look at ever modern race car or performance oriented car on a professional level. They have Ati or Fluidampr for a reason.
