Sup guys. Figured i had gotten done enough to make a build thread for my s13. Little background on previous cars. Used to have a 2012 Subaru wrx. Bought it when i was 18. Was working full time and decided to splurge on myself. I daily drove it for 3 years while modifying it. Had the typical ringland issue, built motor dropped in. Ended up getting a full varis front end for it, and making another set of varis fenders conforma nd line up with the varis front bumper. That front end is still my favourite to date on any car, such clean aggressive and purposeful lines. I ended up parting it out and selling it to buy the wife a daily. Picked upan 05 wrx as a daily and have had nothing but problems with it, just finished droppin a motor into it, prolly gunna drive it for a bit then sell it off and get a new daily, maybe a truck idk yet.

Anyways enough about the Subarus, (Fucking pains in my ass). So, the plan with the s13 is an all around performer, not built for anything specific and capable of nearly any kinda event i want to attend. Drag, drift, road course, autox, hill climb whatever.
From the get go i knew i wanted to do something different. I dont really like following the crowd and love doing custom one off stuff. I knew the 240s already had pretty good weight distribution, so i wanted to capitalize on that and make it even better. did a bunch of figuring, measuring, brainstorming and a slight bit of obsession, but i finally settled on a corvette transaxle with an ls motor. I considered other motors to run with the corvette transaxle but none of them met my goals better than the ls did.
So, picked upa local shell, and got it home. Thing was in rough shape. I knew i didnt want to buy a mint car as it will be getting cut up and everything and i wouldnt be using majority of the stock ext. panels.
This is the shape i got it home in and basically my starting base (if you want to call it that)

Once mostly gutted. I pulled the rear subframe in lieu of the transaxle currently being in route. Once out i test the the rear diff which i already had in my possession.

After mocking up the diff the I could see where the rear crossmember needs to be cut so that it could fit up into the chassis. About this time my trans and torque tube were arriving. Had to find some spare bolts in my bolt collection to get them bolted up for mock up. Ill get some quality arp hardware once I'm ready to really bolt them. Excuse the sub par pictures, had to take some with my iPhone 6, had just sold my camera and was still waiting on the new upgraded one to come in.

Once i had the trans, diff, and torque tube in and bolted together, it was time to cut a giant hole in the rear floor to make room. I knew there was going to have to be a substantial hole, needless to say it was still larger than i expected. This was the turn that if i took it i couldn't turn back once done. I did it without blinking an eye haha. I also had to cut up the rear subframe for room as well. I cut out both center sections which turned it into a two piece rear subframe. While the subframe was out i installed Gkteck solid bushings. Once final position of the rear diff and trans are found, a mount tieing the two separate subframe pieces will be made. the rear subframe won't be staying two separate pieces.

After cutting up the rear floor i had a beautiful day here so i decided to pull her out the garage and clean up the underside and engine bay. This thing was FULL of grease and grime as if it had leaked from day one and never fixed. Got it much cleaner but still has a long way to go. I also mockup up one of my Varis side skirts from my gr wry, may just have to incorporate that into the build....

At this point progress slowed a bit as i had to do a trans, hug, brake and suspension swap on a friends 03 wrx wagon. Talk about a sleeper. Hell of a fun car and room for the family. At this point the 240 had been sitting in the driveway as pictured above for 2.5 weeks.Got a letter from the HOA, luckily i was planning on moving it back inside the next day or so anyway. Damn HOA, can't wait to move somewhere with 1-2acres and no HOA lol

After finishing the trans swap on my buddies car and getting the 240 back in the garage, i made a el cheapo crude strut tower brace to make sure everything is square once i start to cut up the front. traced out some lines of rough cuts for the front and i will finalize them later once i have a better idea of how much i actually want to take off.

Finally got my motor. For now its a LR4 4.8 from a silverado. iron block. Plan is build the it setup for it, get the dry sump up and fitted to it and all the quirks figured out, add a decent cam, some better flowing heads and i will also be building a 180 degree header for it as well to give it a unique sound. Should def be a unique ls swap for a 240.

After initial mockup of the motor i knew i wanted it to sit further back in it was, so i did what insane person would, i cut a giant hole in my firewall. I also removed some of the double layer metal as well, ill clean the hard glue shit up later on. Now the motor is sitting a good 2'' further back, with the center of the motor in line/slightly aft of the front strut tower center line, great for weight distribution.

Pup decided he wanted to help today. He's not too keen on the loud noises tho lol. When i pulled the intake manifold i was created with a lovely sight. Some fabulous grimy build up in the intake ports on the heads. Good thing these will be replaced with some higher flowing units before she fires up. These will work great as mock up test fit set up tho. After the initial mockup i decided i need to trim a bit more, just to make future access a bit easier, and so i could make a slightly shallower incline once i fabb up the firewall back. Id ask accumulated a decent amount of parts I'm not going to use. Need to figure out somehting cool to make out of it all in the future.

Got some big plans for the body. Going to be running a set of wide front fenders and rear full over fenders, then on top of that will be a rocket bunny v2 kit which will be cut up a bit and modified to my liking.
Love the "out of the box thinking!
Thanks! i wanted to do something that hadnt been done before on the 240 but still met my goals i i thihk this fits nicely.

After getting the rough idea of where the motor was going to sit, pulled the front subframe to get it cleaned up and to cut off the steering rack mounts, as I'm going to modify it to get it to sit as low as i can get it so that i can get the motor as low as possible.

Also had some shiny parts come in today. As i mentioned before my shell i purchased didn't come with a steering rack or any of the brackets or bushings. So i had to source some separately. Today i received the factory mount brackets, which btw weigh a TON for what they are. Gong to drill some holes in them and lighten them up bit. Also got in some energy suspension steering rack bushings. These are just for mock up and test fit duties. Ill be getting a set of aluminum solid bushings for the final install. Also received the ARE dry sump oil pan. Currently only ordered the pan as thats all i need right now to mock up the motor and get it mounted. Ill ordered the rest of the kit later down the road when i need the additional parts and when i can afford it lol

So with this post brings us up to date of where I'm at on the build. Today has been a whirlwind to say the least. I hit an animal (still never figured out wtf it was i actually hit) in my daily driver 05 wry, my wife nearly ran over a body on the interstate (something had just happened and no one was on the scene yet, cops were right behind her). And then a little bit of good happened. The last few weeks i have been searching for a set of Nismo Lmgt2's to buy. Ill be rebuilding them and converting them to 3 piece wheels so i wasn't looking for a mint set. My biggest stipulation was i wanted all 4 correct center caps in decent condition with the wheels. Turns out as rare as these wheels are i happned upon a set 10 minutes away from my house. I couldn't believe after searching for weeks with multiple dead ends i was able to find a quality set with all 4 center caps right down the road from my house.

Got my steering rack in today. This allowed me to mock it up along with the dry sump pan to see how low i could get the motor.

After setting the steering rack in place of where it goes stock, I was able to see how far i could move it over to gain more clearance for the driver side header. The downside of this is now one inner tie rod is too long and one is too short. In the future i will measure exactly how far over i moved the rack, cut that much out of the longer tie rod and add it to the other side. Ill probably have to add a bit of small tuning reinforcement, kinda like a sleeve, over the modified areas that get back welded together

With the motor dropped into the engine bay i was amazed how much more room i had with the steering rack over. Def a helpful modification in the space department. Also got a bit of a visual of where the Altenator, Ac compressor, and Dry sump pump will be. Plan is to mount the oil gear pump on one side of the motor and low near level with the motor mount under the head, and the alternator and ac compressor on the other side in the same position, all below the head. Ill be running a electric power steering pump from a vauxhall astra so there won't be a mechanical pump mounted on the motor. With the few accessories i have being mounted so low and out of the way and running an electric water pump, the front of the motor will be extremely clean and simplistic.

I realized after setting the motor in roughly where it is going to sit that there is going to be a monumental amount of space for the radiator and condenser, which both will be mounted on a roughly 45* forward angle, with the air coming through the from bumper, passing through the radiator/condensor and then up and out a duct through a center vent in the hood, more than likely a koguchi power item.

What is your reason for running an electric water pump aside from parasitic loss? It's my understanding that most electric pumps are meant for a drag racing application where the car is ran for short periods of time and then turned off. Pump keeps working while car is shut down, cooling between runs. I've heard they arent good for extended run time, i.e. track events, etc. due to not having the capacity of a manual pump.
How excited I'm getting about this build!

Reasons being like you mentioned parasitic loss, cleaning up the front of the engine, and again like you mentioned the additional cooling it provides whole at lower rpms and idle. I plan to do multiple types of events with the car, ranging from drag to road course to 1/2 mile events etc. So the low rpm additional cooling would be a benefit. As for flow, yes at the top end of the rpm range where the mechanical pump is at peak flow it is flowing more than a electric will, however it may be only 15-20% more. In addition to that some mechanical pumps have an rpm limit to them. I intend to have a decently high redline and i could force that being a problem. I feel as if the electric pump suits my needs, being an all around street car capable of multiple styles of racing.
Im really not too concerned with how efficeint the cooling system will be as i will have very good airflow to and from the radiator, so i doubt 20% less coolant flow at the upper end of the rev range where i may only spend 10-15% of the time driving the car will make that big of a difference.
Thanks for the support on the build tho :rawk:

Yeah thats a buddy of mines gc8 I'm doing some rust repair and body work on. And yeah the wry and sti have always had ring land issues. Up until 2015 where the wry got the new fa20, although the sti still has the 1989 based j25 lol Sad part is Subaru has known about the ring land issue since the GD chassis but have yet to fix it.

Also was able to mount the trans, torque tube and motor all up as one. This allowed me to see about where the diff will sit in relation to how far back the motor will sit. I ran into a bit of a clearance issue, probably have about another inch back the diff could go before the motor sits where i want it. Just have to do some minor trimming on the rear subframe for some more clearance. I also have to grind off the stock corvette shift box mounts to allow the trans axle/ rear diff to be mounted higher as at this current point they are contacting the trans tunnel in the middle. So the rear diff will probably sit .5-.75" higher and 1-1.25" farther back than this. Should have plenty of ground clearance, cooling air space, and hopefully SOMEWHERE to run the exhaust...

There are software programs to calculate the metal flow to make sure you have even heat and material dispersion.
Its likely far cheaper and easier to buy and existing ITB setup or convert some motorcycle units and machine adapters.

The plan is ducatti 999r throttle bodies with cnc machined intake flanges and custom runners. talked to one of my coworkers a bit and he suggested 3d printing. So im going to look into that as well. Not sure how comfortable i feel casting my own metal in my garage. Casting seems much more techincal and precise vs the 3d printing.

If your interested in casting aluminum, watch myfordboy (https://www.youtube.com/user/myfordboy) on youtube. He does a ton of aluminum casting and also some machining. He usually is thorough on his video's and also answers a lot of questions in his comments.
Have you thought of machining instead of casting? Im sure if you design the file and go to a shop with a 5 axis CNC mill they could easily take care of this and have high tolerances.

I have but seems costly, although how costly compared to casting or 3d printing I'm not sure lol The thing with 3d printing or casting myself is i would be learning a new skill. Idk undecided yet. Need to do some research on all the options before i come to a conclusion.

Yeah I get that. I am all about learning new skills and applying them. It definitely would be an adventure to cast them. Just watch some of those videos and look at how long it takes him to make his molds. Also a decent amount of work to get started and fairly expensive initial start up.
If your looking for quality and something repeatable with high precision then machining would be the way to go IMO.
If your looking for "cheap" customization then its all about 3D printing it. Personally though, I would not have anything 3D printed in my engine bay unless it was your standard clips and things.

Id like to get a 3d printer just to mess with. Would be good for making a few runners to check clearances and what not before i spend the money on a cnc'ed set. Im sure sure i could find a way to make a bit of money with the 3d printer as well to recoup some of the cost.

Awesome build! Definitely never seen anyone do something this intensive to a 240 before haha. There wont be much of the car left when you're finished! Just one question, why did you go with an iron block? Seems like you're putting in an awful lot of work in terms of optimum weight distribution to go with this option.

I subscribed right when I read "180 header". I've been waiting for someone to do a 180 header LS swap. Only way I'd do an LS swap is a high revving 4.8 and either 180 headers or an 8-1 collector setup.
If I may make a recommendation, Villains makes solid steering rack mounts that will save you from the heavy factory mounts and brackets, and you can weld them wherever you want. http://villainsdrift.bigcartel.com/product/villains-s13-solid-rack-relocation-kit

Hmm, may have to consider those, thanks for the heads up. As for the 180, ive always wanted to do one as well. My rev limit will only be 7-7200 with either motor. Between gearing, tire height and packaging for the 180 degree header (length wise as it affects where the powerband is) 7-7200 is my limitation. Id love 8-8500 but ill take what i can get. Even with 7-7200 and my rear tire i plan on running for drag and 1/2 mile (345/35/18 Et streets) my top speed in 6th will be 230-240 ish. And with normal/roadcpurse tires in 335/30/18 the gearning will still be plenty close for track and canyon carving duties. Although i dont sauspect long gearing to be an issue regargless becasue of all the torque and such minimal weight of the car.
PS Just checked out those steering raack mounts and def going to order a set. Cheaper than the solid bushings i was going to get, les cubersome to mount on the subframe, and as you said less weight. Thanks again for showing me those.

Yeah that's what I meant to imply, you save on having to buy bushings and these could be more easily welded wherever you want them it seems. Hope they work out for you!

Got home from a weekend getaway down in New Orleans, think i almost went broke on food, and id been perfectly happy if i had.
Ok, so enough about the food. Started cutting up the front subframe to allow the motor to sit a bit lower. Before i could measure for notching the subframe, i had to remove the factory corvette shifter mounts. They were hitting the trans tunnel and not allowing me to get the trans setup to sit where i wanted it to. I also removed the front suspension as it was getting in the way with measuring and what not.

With everything out of the way i cut off the flange that jutted out from the subframe that the steering rack mounted it. I decided to not use the standard mounting brackets and ordered a set of Villains drift solid mounts, which are weld on replacements. This allows me to have free reign of where I'm going to mount the rack. The rack will be moved forward, forward, and to the lt side compared to factory location.

With the subframe notched i was able to see how low i could get the motor and how the rear diff would sit, after some more minor trimming of the rear subframe. If i had to guess id say the motor is proly sitting close to 2'' lower than a typical ls swapped s13.

Bad news with motor sitting so low i ran in a bit of a problem. The bell housing is sitting an 1" below the framerails. To remedy this i need to get a flywheel and see how low it sits in comparison to the bell housing so i can see how much i can chop off of it. Also thew in my make shift strut brace to see how much room i had gained. Should have plenty of clearance to build the its now.

Small update. I FINALLY BOUGHT A WELDER. Now thats out of my system. Finally bought a welder after wanting one for so long. Been using the one at the shop for small projects here and there. But not having one here at home as really hampered me and what i could do.
Also picked up a few other things. Saw someone else using this speed blaster, and figured i could def use that on my car, anxious to try it out and see how it does! Also picked up a drill press and a belt sander. Anyone knows, if you have tried drilling through anything thicker than a thin body panel with a drill, its a major, slow, pain in the fucking ass.
Also got some ITB's in. They are Ducati 999R items. If your not familiar with ducatis, they are 2 cylider motors. Basically what that means for these its is that they are larger than the 4 cylinder bike its such as gsxr and hayabusa's which are in the 46-48mm range where these from the ducati are 52mm. Still need to order 3 more pairs for a full set, but i just ordered this first set for mock up and test fitting.

Speaking of itbs, ive been doing alot of thinking on how i want to make them. Thought about making them cross each other and what not like the jenvey and kinsler setups, but that seems extremely difficult and is much more common route on LS motors. So i think i am going to do the vertical ibs like the link below. With how low the motor is i think i will have plenty room. Need to find a cheap s13 hood to throw on and check and see how much room there actually will be under there.

So, seeing as i had the day off today, i piddled in the garage a bit. Had a buddy come over and help wire in a few new plugs. Needed a 220v of course for the welder, and also added a standard 110v plug on this wall. For whatever reason when the house was built there wasn't a plug put on the far side wall of the garage. Anyway, got that wired up and working good, just need a bottle of gas now and I'm ready to start the fab work. I also mounted some hooks so that i could store metal tubing and other materials on the wall, as well as taking down my subaru flag and hanging a few things I've had lying around for a while.

Currently the front end is surround by stuff while I've been busy the last week or so :/ need to change that asap. Still have yet to pick up a daily. Hopefully once that happens ill get back into my routine and get some parts ordered, start some fab work, and get the ball rolling. In the meantime, i decided to clean up the wheels a bit so that i could remove the faces in an effort to be able to sell the barrels and make some more space in the garage. Anyone want some lmgt2 barrels?? It was a pretty day today so the wife and pup joined me outside. He loves the hose....

It got a bit chilly and windy after the sun went down so i resorted to closing the door and doing what i could inside. Decided to start planning out the front tube work and how i wanted to do it. Not sure how feasible my ideas are but that is what I'm leaning towards. Still need to order the front body work to mock up before the first cuts made, which should be very soon. Also received my new steering rack mounts from Villains. Need to mock those up and see what needs to be trimmed and cut to make them fit my modified steering rack

So last night i did a bit on pondering on the front end air management. Since i had made the decison to run the itbs verticaly through the hood, i was wondering what i would do with the top opening in the rocket bunny front bumper which ill be running. The oroginal plan was for the itbs to do the traditional criss cross and the trumpets over the valve covers, being fed air from that top opening on the bumper i just mentioned by making a divider to plit the air side to side. Downside to that was more air in the engine bay and more importantly the intake sucking in super heated air that resides in the engine bay.
I want to keep that center upper opening as if i were to blank it off i think it would be too plain. So i came up with the idea to channel the air through the center hood vent and make it swirl with the air coming from the radiator to help cool it off a bit before getting sucked into the itbs. Its still warmer than ambient air, but its the lesser evil compared to the super heated air of the engine bay.
Excuse the crude paint drawings

If you really wanted you could make custom vents that direct out of the sides of the hood and direct air flow to them through ducting. This would direct the warm/hot air away from the itb's. Just a thought. This build is pretty sweet! cant wait to see more

It would, yes, but i REALLY want to use the koguchi power hood. And ducting going side to side would just clutter the engine bay up more so than the single center duct would

Finally got some progress made, not the amount of progress i wanted to make, but progress none the less. Finally got a bottle of gas and got the welder setup to go %100. Started out by throwing on one of the gktech subframe gussets and then making a set of gussets/ load plates for where the trans mount would be welded.

Ok so i finally also bought a daily. Decided against taking out a small loan on one the cars i wanted and picked up a truck. With a baby 4 months out id rather not have the second car note to deal with while trying to adjust funds with the newfound money sucker upper that is an infant. Plan is to drive it for a year and get something nicer next summer. Maybe ill get me my 911 I've been wanting for, well, ever lol Well here she is in all her glory. 04 silverado, needs a little love but she was cheap and a decent buy. Should come in handy towing racer stuff in the future.

Alright, so the wheel escapade, here are some shots showing how the machined smaller edge site in relation to the barrel and the reinforcement bracket on the Lmt2's. The bracket has a 90* shape to it so as to acts as part of the wheel to press against the lip when bolted down, i dont see any reason it shouldn't work like Ray's or Nismo intended. Here are some detailed shots on how it mounts. Dont mind the face being upside down in the barrel, i was lazy....

Also got a bit more work done on my motor mounts, got all the slag off from the plasma cutter and started to drill some mount holes and marked off some weight reduction holes. Drilling through 1/4" plate takes few minutes even with a drill press, and i wasn't really feeling that great tonight i just called it a night and will pick back up tomorrow. Was really wanting the drivetrain under its own weight by now but just ran out of time.

Lastly, i did a bit of measureming and came to a bit of a predicament. The front tires i will be running vs the ride height i want to run is causing a bit of an issue clearance wise. Between tire, height, suspension travel room, and ground clearance, there just isn't quite enough room between the ground and the upper rail where the strut mount. So with that being said i will be chopping off the strut towers and relocating them in up and back a little bit along with removing the upper rail entirely and creating my own new upper rail that ties into the dash bar and roll cage. I won't say yet what size tire i will be running, but it will require a bit of wide body massaging for a bit of t300 esque fender looks for wheel and tire fitment, but not full race car, but not full stanced either. regardless its gunna be worth the wait.

Interesting build you have going here sir.
I'd just like to point out, if the tire is something that requires heat for it to work effectively, you may not be able to get it to temp with such a light vehicle.
Anyway, keep going, this should be cool.

Shouldnt have a problem with getting heat into the tire. Will be a large front splitter, front diffuser section, canards, proper engine bay ducting, flat floor, proper rear diffuser, large voltex wing. Should def have 100s of lbs of useable downforce. Worse case ill get smaller lips for the wheels and dowsize the tires, but i dont forsee that being a problem.
Tires will be r888s, thanks for the insight tho.

Well, this past week has been a bust. Last weekend i was hoping to get the motor mounts finished and drivetrain all mounted up but ran out of time. This week has also sucked, I've been sick all week and had zero energy to touch the car. Today had a friend come by and help me build a storage shelf and wheel shelf. super excited how it came out, easily fit 2 9'' wheels and 2 10'' wheels with room for probably 2 more. Also got some planted seat mounts in, but can't do much of anything with them until my contact gets back with me on pricing for a seat. Need the seat to set main roll cage hoop location so i can set front down bar location which is needed to connect to the dash bar and front strut tower tubes. Its all a connect to dot game, and I'm patiently waiting my turn.

Was able to knock ou the other side motor mount today. They still need some cleaning up of the edges from the plasma cutter and a bit of splatter from welding but they came out decent. Also started on making the metal to shut in the drop out section of the front subframe. Good ole loose leaf paper makes for great template making. Once subframe is welded shut i can start on making the jig to locate the front lca front mount position and the front strut tower placement as well in prep of the front tubular setup.

Welded up the indention i cut into front subframe, still need to work on my welding once there is heat in the metal. I, not compensating in my speed for it so I'm ether too fast or too slow. So I'm either almost burning through or not quite getting enough penetration.

Picked up a used truck starter to use for mock up to check oil line clearances and header room as well. Header wise i should have plenty of room to make what i want. Regarding dry sump oil lines, I'm not able to run the center port as it will hit the motor mount/ subframe. When i first put the starter on i wasn't thinking i could run the rear most port. But once i put the 90* fitting on i think i can just manage to get it to run and be out of the way by massaging the motor and starter a bit. By massaging i mean grinding on the motor and a hammer on the starter for a slight indentation haha Also dont worry about the rubber line, i will be using braided stainless line on the actual install.

Once the subframe was welded up, i pulled the motor out and bolted the subframe up to start measuring and mock up for the new mounts for the steering rack. I ended up having to notch the passenger side mount to go around the nipple for where there hardline connects to the rack

Been doing a little thinking lately where i could put a pair of auxillary coolers. Used my awesome paint skills to depict my idea thus far. Ive always been a big fan of the ferrari f40, and ive been wanting to incorpate a few design features from it into the 240. A while back i decided i wanted to do the triple exhuast tip look from it. I also thought of today doing a naca duct on the quarter panel to feed air to a pair of coolers mounted vertical within the rear body below the tailights.
A plus side to this is bringing more air behind the car to lessen the low pressure area that causes drag on cars. So not only will i be drawing air from a fairly high pressure area, i will be disposing of it in the most effective area against the fight for less drag for more efficiency.
The red squares are the coolers, the three black circles exhaust tips, the blue square rear diffuser, and the yellow and orange depicts various tempertures of the air exting the various parts

No bumper?
Frankly i forgot to mention it at all. Original plan was to just cut the bumper to contour around everything, but with the position of the coolers and how far out the bumper sticks back form the body i dont think it would be very visually pleasing. I may either make a flat panel to go where the rear bumper is, vs how the stock one sticks out, or not run one at all depending on clearance and ducting needed. Height wise im not sure i will have enough room between the taillights and top of rear diffuser to run the exhaust in the center and the two coolers. May have to ditch the tri tip exhaust and just run it off to the left side straight out.
If the rear panel id make is going to be cut all up any way there is no sense in making one just to cover up the sides, as i have to fit a license plate back there as well. So currently, who the fuck knows if i will run some form of a rear bumper, not a huge fan of cars without it, but i will have ducting, diffuser, exhaust etc higher up where most cars ive seen havent really cut into the rear body. SO i have no clue till i start fitting things up and see how it all looks. :picardfp:

Over the last few days i was able to get the everything bolted up, throw the stock suspension back on, and lower it down under it owns weight. The conclusion i have come to is this motor sits FUCKING LOW. The center of the heads sit even with my knee caps (I'm 6'1 for reference) needless to say its way down there.

Also swung by my dads to pick up and borrow some tools vs just buying my own right now. saving money is good, who cares if your using tools that aren't your own. Biggest thing i picked up tho was his tubing bender. Saved me a few hundred bucks from buying one, and i dont have to wait for one to get shipped in either. Week or so ago i ordered a tubing roller. How this differs from a bender is the roller will give the tubing a nice radius bend, where as the bender gives short specific angle bends. Roller will come in hand for various pieces i.e. strut tower bar, some smaller wall roll cage tie in points maybe etc. Also picked up from dad a few angle finders and a tool to hold in place the tubing while you tack in place. Pretty usefull little tool

I also have multiple parts on order currently, I'm quite excited. Heres a run down of what all is on order.
- Front and rear fenders
-Front and rear flares
-Roll cage tubing
-Bucket seat
-Hole saw bits to cut roll cage
Actual work itself on the car is going to slow over the next month or so as i have two large side jobs ill be under taking. So ill be tide up with those for a bit. They also are paying quite well so i should also in the mean time be able to get a few more parts ordered as well, namely rear inner and outer barrels to start mock up of the wheels.
Cant really measure for the fronts yet as i need the new knuckles, lca's and coilovers as well. So front mock is still a ways out. Hopefully my friend buys my Varis parts in the next 2 weeks as promised and ill be able to get the knuckles and such just mentioned on the way.
Busy times ahead. My bank account is really feeling it :/

Also took the time to use some spare materials i had laying around to sorta mock up how i want to do the front tube work. The outside bar will be joining the downbar/dashbar through the firewall and the two angled bars will be going through the cowl and connecting to the dash bar as well. I fell this will be a very sturdy, structurally sound design. Of course there will be some bars connecting these upper bars to the lower rail. Ill figure that out once i come to it, but i already have a few ideas.

Thanks man, it was either do a ground up build like this, or use the bit of cash i had set aside as a downpayment on a used 911 or gtr and be broke and unable to afford to modify it. I enjoy building cars just as much as i do driving them, so i chose the former. My wifes real estate it really picking up so maybe next year ill get me my 997 turbo 911 :rawk:

Borrowed some glass tools from work today to pull the windshield. Was going to do the qtr windows as well but didn't feel like fighting with them as i **** using the saw, decided to pull the hatch and some door gaskets as well. Also found a bit of rust under the windshield urethane, but not a big deal as it isn't bad at all.
Does anyone know where to buy some New Old Stock gaskets and trim pieces for an s13? I have a feeling its going to be a bitch locate some factory gaskets and such
Also got the car moved over as tomorrow the cats-v is getting dropped off, and she needs her space inside while i work on her.

Believe me, I'm not rich by no means either. But it was the finically right choice. My baby is due early June. Id rather pick up a cheap used truck like we need with cash, get a long term project car, then have a sweet sports car and be car broke, unable to mod, unable to take it anywhere because of cost, on top of first born child addiotnal cost.
In a years time we will have an idea of the extra cost of the child and can budget for such, should be able to pay off the wife car and have enough set aside for a good down payment on a 911. Then ill have a truck to haul/tow with, a weekend/track day full on "racecar" 240x and a daily 911 turbo. Then in the next few years ill probably have to buy the wife a used aston martin vantage because she keeps saying i get my dream car she gets to get hers too. :ugh::ugh::ugh:

Im definately not upper class lol Ive yet to look into maintenance cost, but i cant imagine its that much more than your average car. Plenty of people daily drive 911s. Hell Porches commercials propogate them as being dd's. The one with the yellow 911 comes to mind, calling it a school bus then loading the front with gardening supplies. Regardless, ill still have my truck i would drive once or twice a week. Little extra in maintenance im willing to pay to own a 911. Its worth it to me :)
Try Nissan Race Shop / Fontana Nissan for trim pieces, moulding, etc.
They are a Vendor on here and give a decent discount.
Thanks i will check the out

Well, the cause of no progress on the 240 is here. Decided to make a separate build thread for it to keep mine uncluttered in here.

So the other day i was doing a bit of thinking on my tire sizes. The current plan is
Front 315/30/18 18x12.5
Rear 335/30/18 18x14
I fully intend to put this car through its paces on the road course and other various events. But at the same time is purpose down to its core is just a fun, badass looking car i can hoon in on the streets, to meets, and various events.
With that being said a big inspiration to this build is the gt300 racing class put of japan. I love the way the cars look with their raised fender hips and large slicks and aero. One thing i have noticed is they are all running the same size front and rear tire (to my knowledge). So it got me thinking, logically it makes sense, tire rotations, swapping front to back etc to keep rear tire overwear to a minimum from over spinning etc.
So im considering just going batshit insane 18x14 335/30s all around. Will give it that big tired wide hipped look i love from the gt300 racing class, better tire life from being able to rotate tires, and and its something i believe know one has ran width wise up front as well. \
I know someone brought up getting enough heat intot the tires to actually make use of them. But i have some big plans aero wise to generate some actually useable/measureable downforce that will def get me the heat and use out of the size of the tires il be running.

Piss poor update, but it is one. While i had my friends caddy's wheel off I measured to see the overall height of the tire, and much to my surprise it's the same overall diameter as the tires i intend to run. So I'm sure you know what happened next. I rolled the wheel over to the back of the 240 and good god. These son bitches are going to be huge. Its exactly the look I'm going for. Cant wait to see what it looks like with all the planned aero and wide body.:eyebrows:eyebrows
Currently still waiting on wide body panels to come in as well as roll cage tubing. Also have a seat on order, which is a ways out still as its coming from the land of the rising sun. I hate waiting on parts.....

Small parts update. Part 1 of 2 of the wide body is here. They are Koguchi power replica over fenders and wide front fenders. Reason for the replicas is they will be cut up and heavily modified. No sense in purchasing the expensive ones when they are getting severely modified anyway. Normally not a fan of knockoff stuff, but in cases like this it just makes logical sense.
Company i got them from is Fineline Tuning. They fit pretty fuckin bad. Maybe I'm just spoiled by how my Varis kit fit on my wrx, but there are multiple things on these that are just off. The bodline on the qtr is off across from the fuel door, the upper edge is quite wavy and frayed, the flat lower flanges where the meet the body are angled wrong, the same on the front, the mating surfaces angkes are off, small chips and wavy lines etc. Not what i was expecting quality wise. As mentioned, good thing I'm getting down and dirty with them. Also did a brake job on my daily. Boring.

OK so, over the last day or so i have been trying to piece together in my head how i want to do my cage. For the most part everything is figured out. However there is one area ive been on the fence about, however i think i have come up with a decent idea.
Alright. The problem is when i cut the floor to gain clearance for the corvette transaxle i had to cut through a crossmember just aft of the center of the car. Would be a big no no to not reinforce this as if i were to get t-boned the floor would just crumple without the support.
Biggest issue with adding support back in was how the transaxle sits. It sits above and below the crossmember. So just welding in a much thicker steel single layer plate isnt an option as it would have to bend to go around it.
Second issue is exhaust clearance. I could run a DOM tubing piece from frame rail to frame rail underneath the transaxle, while still having sufficient ground clearance, but then i have zero room to run the exhaust.
So here is my theroized solution, provided there is enough room. When i first bought the car i mocked up my Varis side skirt of my 2012 wrx that i was parting out, just for shits and giggles. turns out, i should be able to integrate it nicely with my widebody plans and helo give the car that gt300 style look im after even more so.
The sideskirt, along with the front bumper i plan to run hang a little bit lower than the pinch weld. So what im thinking, is run the piece of dom tubing laterally from frame rail to frame rail like mentioned before, and run a side exit exhaust, through the side skirt. The added depth of the side skirt will allow me to not just have a exhaust pipe hanging down, and i dont have to worry about snaking an exhuast around the crossmember reinforcement. Running the welded in DOM tube connecting the frame rails also allows me to tie it into the cage, for more added rigity.
And side exhaust are badass. Will def exit out the passenger side and passenger side only. I enjoy my hearing, my passengers can get over it. Now lets just hope the wife doesnt divorce me over it.

Amazing build and ideas. I'm totally drooling over your ability to think outside the box.
You may have wanted to do some more practice with your welds before you started "production". Manipulation and a multi-pass would have been beneficial in some of your frame buildup. You have a some contamination in some of those welds you have pictured just from visual. Keep it up though you'll get better if you practice, cut up some of your welds and see if your settings are right.

SO. In the midst on working on multiple customer cars, I've managed to get a small amount of work done on my own.
First up. Had a few parts come in. Roll cage tubing showed up. (not all of it, obvisouly. Will need to make a separate order as i need it) Tire for mock up came in as well. 335/30.18 toyo r888. And Lastly, the part dos of my wide body setup. Rocket bunny flares. Get over it. Been there done that, played out yada yada. Not like this they haven't been done. Promise.

So actually on to getting some work done to the car. Found some spare time one afternoon and finished breaking down the wheel faces so that i could get them shipped out to get machined and the lips and barrels made to make a set of rear wheels for now. Once those are back ill mount the tire and we can get down to business to see how much hell I'm going to have to go through to make these suckers ft with the camber i want to run (minimal, purely for function here) while still making it sit with that perfect meaty, but still have clearance, stance

Speaking of fitting wheels, have full gktech adjustable links, drop knuckles etc. basically there full 240 suspension system on order. Some parts are on back order so hopefully it doesn't take too terribly long for it all to come in. Still need to order some 5 lug hubs for when the suspension gets here so i will have some thing to actually bolt the wheels to.
Lastly, tonight after getting home, i got to mock up one side of the rb flares. OH BOY am i excited. Its exactly the look I'm going for. To say I'm excited is an understatement. Def going to need some trimming, splicing, and widending (front def, was expecting this regardless) but man will the work be worth it. You can see now why i am confident the sti varis flares will tie in well. Adds to the gt3 style car look. Also again gives the great place for the passenger leg hair remover, i mean exhaust.

Was able to get a bit more work done while also working on the caddy. I took some weights of stock components. Fully assembled doors, hatch, hinges etc. Will be a good base/reference once i get the lighter componets in, to see just how much I'm saving.
Also picked up used set of 5 lug rotors to use as mock up. Now all i need is front and rear 5 lug hubs ordered for when the new knuckles and linkage comes in.

Whats your game plan as far as the double-flares? Are you going to mold the insides together so you have one curved surface, cut the Kogutchi's underneath so its just the RB outer lip, or is it going to have two inner edges as it does in the pics above.

Everything will be moulded in, so the overs to the actual car, and the flares to the overs. I took that shot just to show how much wider than stok it all was. This was just a very rough mock up, cut up session. Much more material will be trimmed. the original qtrs will be cut back to where there is only enough matieral to bond the over fenders to them, so the over will become the outer skin, and then the flare bonded and moulded to the over. I will be making new outer wheel houses to connect the inner qtr strutcure to the "new" qtr skin (over fender). The outer wheel house modification is also necessary for wheel travel and static tire clearance. Needs to be brought up a few inches for reasons just stated.

So this weekend has been productive thus far. Got my Street Faction seat brackets in today. Very impressed with the quality and fitment so far. Decided to sell the planted ones i had as they didn't fit very well.

Went a head and cut up the other side of overs so i could fit the flares over them to see the overall width of the car. Also moved the rear flare up more, so now the top is in line with the hip line of the overs. Cant finalize positioning until suspenions and wheels are here, but its fun to mock up and check clearances and such thus far.

Ah, was such a perty day today i couldn't not go outside and get some work done.
Well let start where we left off form working yesterday. After getting the car on jack stands, i pulled the motor and front subframe so i could start making the locating jig for the front LCA mount and strut towers
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1648/26154712411_6e4133b20d_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/FRcJMr)untitled (1 of 16) (https://flic.kr/p/FRcJMr) by lawrx (https://www.flickr.com/photos/

Started off with making the jig by cutting the stock caster arms off to use as the locaters. since ill be using after market arms, it made the most logical sense instead of spending time making my own end to fit to the stock mount.

After that i basically made an x to reach up to and over the stock strut tower locations

I used the shitty ebay top hats as the locaters for the strut towers, as again, ill be going aftermarket and have no use for them. Welded some square tubing to them and then bolted that to the locater plate right above it. That way i can unbolt the mounts and allow removal of the jig overall. Once the jig was finalized i could cut off the stock strut towers. Well there is def no turning back now...

I also cut off the frame rails right after the subframe mounts, since i incorporated the caster rod mounts into the jig as well. Having the freedom to move the front mounting point of the front LCA will allow me to mess with caster, camber, and anti-dive properties for even more in depth chassis tuning.

Over the last week I've been extremely busy, and just haven't gotten as much done as i had wanted to. Between being busy at work and other projects that are timeline sensitive i need to do work on, which you will see below, have taken up my time.
Really can't do a whole lot at the moment, as I'm still currently waiting on my seat to arrive, dont exactly have time right now anyway as the RS I'm working on needs to be finished and wrapped up by Saturday for the local Subaru crawfish boil were debuting it at.
So in short, no real update other then me groaning about being too busy and still waiting on parts. Carry on

Also heres a before shot of the RS. Every panel scratehed to hell and back, multiple dents on every panel, rust hole in driver floor, rusted out taillights housings, terrible gap fitment. She was a damn pain in my ass.

girth/width/booty/ass/widebody/becuaseican.
But real reason is additional width to cover the massive wheels and tires width out unneccessary camber. I intend on runnign no more than 2* out back and no more than 3* on the front. functional camber, not stance camber.
Same reason I drink whiskey and beer.... Because why TF not!
Valid point. Because MURICA,

Just put a deposit down so my front bumper can start being made. ALso waiting on a few details to come back so i can put a deposit down on the wing as well.
While talking to my guy over at Bulletproof he sent me a few picutres of this sick front splitter/diffuser for the evo8/9 voltex front bumper one of his other clients ordered. We were talking for a few minutes and he said how cool would it be to make this work with your garage mak front bumper?? Well needless to say I am now goign to be saving every little penny to afford this beauty.
SO, if anyone knows anyone with aEvo 8/9 Voltex cyber evo front bumper, and doesnt mind tracing the bottom edge of the bumper and making a template for me, so once i have the garage mak bumper in my hands i can compare and see if it will actually work that would be fantatsic. What are the specs on those wheels!?
Normally I'd say that was excessive, but minimal camber and lots of rubber means this will certainly be interesting!

After i made sure everything was there I mounted all the rear suspension linkage and the knuckles to the subframe and then the subframe to the car. Reason being is MY FUCKING WHEELS HAVE SHIPPED, so clearly you can see i am excited to mock them up. Rear hubs should be here few days before the wheels show up, so till mock up its just a waiting game.

I also had a spare piece of alumilite laying around, so i decided to tape it up crudely to get an idea of how high up into the rear body the diffuser will go at the desired angle i want. For street cars the safe range is 7-10*, however i will have a fairly efficient full underfloor and rear wing so I'm going to go in the 12-14* range. Upon holding it up, from the bottom of the subframe (pretty much where the diffuser will start) up to about 1" into the rear body is a 12-13* angle. Which works out great. AS it leaves me room on either side to run AUX. coolers and the license plate in the center. This also means no rear bumper. However since the rear diffuser comes up so high and the coolers and license plate are right above it, it won't have that naked rear end look like the standard typical rocket bunny s13's have. Functional and better looking IMO, win win for me

Only had a half day of work today, so i made the best of the nice day and worked out in the garage this afternoon.
I started out by disassembling the front and rear knuckles so i could use the hardware on the new items once they had all come in. Also decided to throw the hardware along with my wheel bolts in the cleaner shaker thing i can never remember the name of.

When i removed the front wheels and suspension out of the front floor board, i realized the car wanted to flip off the jack stands, because i had the transaxle and rear suspension all bolted up. It was a good bad thing all the weight is in the rear haha. So i threw the wheels on a dolly set between the frame rails to even out the weight. Once i had finished dissembling the front knuckles, i took the wheels off and mounted the motor back up front.

After getting there motor back in, i decided it was about time i got the steering rack mounted up to the front subframe. As i mentioned before i moved the rack over to the driver side so that the steering shaft has a direct path to the steering rack, eliminating one u joint, which will help in the feel department tremendously.

Mini somewhat related/unrelated update.
Rear hubs came in so got one bolted up and decided to take some measurements about where i roughly think the wheel edge will sit. It looks like it will poke about 2.75". This was with about the camber i want to run, -1.8 ish. If this is intact about where it sits ill probably widen it another 1' and i should be good, between the slight stretch and a pinch more camber. Also took a measurement and the overall width is about 78-79", aka 18 wheeler wide lololol ridiculous. I love it.

Haha thanks man it should be pretty sweet once were finished with it.
As for the camber, in the rear no. The gk knuckles have revised geometry and have a great camber curve. Honestly -2 might almost be too much with the revised geometry. As for the front yes ill probably be running more like -2.5-3. Need to do a little research on what others run and also just trail and error see what works once she is up and running.

Camber curve is well, the cambers curve lol Its the arc that measurement takes over the course of the suspension compressing or drooping. The gktech knuckles have a very linear and smooth camber curve so it keeps the tire parallel to the ground much better than the stock camber curve, therefore requiring less camber. Most guys who run these knuckles in the rear that drift are running -.5 to 0 degrees, the geometry is just that good. Running less camber is a good thing as now you have optimal traction in straight-line and in the curves, where as if you were running 2.5-3 degrees your reducing straighten performance. Granted its very marginal, but if your a top level pro team every bit counts.

Well this week has been fantastic so far.
MONDAY. Bought a new daily. Pretty good deal i couldn't pass up, love these cars. 2014 with only 5800 miles. Great condition. Silverado will be getting sold.
Plans for the car. Drive.drive. drive. drive.
Short terms goals
-catback exhaust
-shifter bushings
-possible final drive change
-few knick knack things here and there
Realistic by end of the year goals
-Coilovers
-wheels
-rear lcas
-possibly drop in the recaro thats for the 240
-drive it some more
Long term goals
-2jz swap
- custom wheels
-few rare ext. pieces
-drive drive drive
As you can well this car will be very modest. It will be my daily and i plan to keep it that way. Its a great fun car and i dont want to ruin that by going mod crazy. Also, only thing i dont like about the car is the all clear taillights, and the stupid blue footwell lights. They come on while you are driving at night and i hate it. So i def need to fix those things.

ON TO TUESDAY. This day was equally as epic as monday. THE WHEELS ARRIVED. THE WHEELS ARRIVED.
And holy fuck are they amazing. Steeb aka 5one did a awesome job on the machine work and lips. Will def be going back to him in the future.
After all the mockups i realized it was one the shallow faces that i used. So all of the clearances will be about .5" further out. Not huge or drastic, but makes a difference, for inner and outer haha. As i was expecting i will need to widen the rear about another full 1''. Nothing major, original plan was to make the car fit the wheels anyway.

Also got some tow straps in from Speedhunters, along with a new camera strap. I have had the red tow strap for a while as i had planned on using it on the 12 wry, but just never got to it. And on their site the red is no longer available. So ill just use in color up front and other in the rear, no biggie.

I bought it used, so no overpaying. Regardless i like the brz more, better interior and better front bumper.

Also, if I may make a suggestion, since you said you wanted a high-revving aluminum motor, why not de-stroke like an LS2 or LS3? I've been wanting to do that on an LQ4/9 for quite some time now. You've already got the 4.8, drop that crank into an LS3 block with a long rod, spend the money on a quality valve train, top it off with some CNC LS3 heads or P&P'd 243's and spin the piss out of it.
Edit: After wanting to do something like that for a while, I happened across this article a couple months ago. Found it. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/4-8l-crank-ls3-block-how-to-build-an-8000-rpm-ls-stroker/
Edit #2: Yes, torque will suffer. But you'd have an 8,000 rpm motor that sounds like pure sex. :naughty:

Made some time tonight to bolt the one wheel all together and seal it up so that i can mount the tire in the next day or so. Still need to drill a hole in the inner barrel for the valve stem. But other than waiting for the silicone to dry she's ready for tire mounting. Not quite sure if I'm going to be able to do it or not. Our machines arm isn't tall enough for these wheels but i can still put it in the clamps and try to man handle it by hand on their. Still going to need a cheetah to seat it all the way because of the slight stretch. We shall see what happens

I am yes, but now that the two halves are sealed the center can unbolt and come out, long as the air pressure in the tire once mounted is released.

Took the wheel and tire to work today to get it mounted. I knew the mounting machine wouldn't be abe to do it because of the width (arm was too short) BUT i figured id try my luck at doing it by hand.
It took 4 of us to get that fucking tire on, but we got that son bitch on. So, I'm going to come right out and say that. theres more stretch than i wanted. together with the r888 having zero additional rubber around the seating bead it exaggerates it even more, but the look is growing on me. Still not 100% satisfied. But I'm not paying for new inner barrels and three are no larger tires i want to run. SO is what it is.
After work i came home and had yet again another mock up session. Tire still isn't at the height i want it to be at, still more metal to be cut away for it to reach where i want. But so far it looks fantastic!

Also, those wheels don't seem to fit your slimbody. You need a third overfender haha.
Your right, i need some of those universal black rivet on flares. genius man haha
I have no words to describe how awesome this looks to my eyes. :rawk:

Why would you seal the wheels before you finish the hubs?
What are you going to do about the lack of shock towers in the front...that should be your main focus
The centers can still be dropped out and painted. Just have to let the air out and put 2 nut and bolts to keep the lips together. And the front shock towers will be made once the cage is made. And the cage will be made once my seat arrives so i can set it in and set main hoop distances and clearances. Currently a waiting game on parts

Are you going to run tubular shock hoops with like AFCO/QA1 style shocks? Or try and incorporate the stock s13 style stuff? Tubular shock hoops would be badass.

Ill be runing stock style s13 coilovers, no need to go for crazy custom setup.

As if hacking off the frame rails, cutting up the firewall and floor, and chopping up the subframe for a transaxle wasn't already crazy custom. Lol. I dig it though.
You said you wanted a high-revving aluminum motor, have you considered something like a de-stroked LS3? I've wanted to do something like that for quite a while.

Fair enough haha. Im not quite smart/intuitive to get a full custom set of coilovers like that and set them up propelry, id rather get set designed for the s chassis and play off the manufactures knowledge in setup and how to set them up.
As for the motor yes i will be in the future going to a high rev motor. Goal is a tall deck rhs or the like with no lower than a 1.6-1.75 rod/stroke ratio, canted valve heads. 9k redline and hopefully 700 to the wheels. Ill be freshening up the 4.8 i have qand slapping on a set of built heads for it for a while. Get the car figured out, settled in and all the bugs worked out, then i will start saving and planning out the little details for the future motor. Mind you the 4.8 will def be revved out as well once i get it refreshed.

Brought home a busted radiator and condenser from work to day in the rough size i think ima run. Threw a front fender on to get an idea of depth. After seeing it up there compared to the fender length, ill probably go the route of a shorter but wider core than what i used for mock up, overall width will be determined by how wide the mouth of the front bumper is, once it arrives.
We had a new m6 in the other day that had ran over a curb, and upon checking out the underside i noticed they had a flat cooler than the air ran threw and exited out the bottom of the car. This gave me the idea of mounting the condenser flat and exiting the air out the bottom right behind the splitter. I need to do some research on hoe much if any this will affect pressures differentials and front splitter effectiveness and downforce.
If the horizontal mounting of the condenser isn't feasible, ill more than likely just mount it directly to the radiator like all oem's do. This was just an idea to get the best possible uninterrupted cooling to the radiator, a side benefit is that it lowers the Center of Gravity, granted its extremely minimal but hey, it all adds up in the end.

On top of baby preparations I've also been slightly distracted by the new daily, 14 brz i picked up a few weeks back. Got a few small parts on order. Probably in a week or so ill start its own thread, but for now here are some pretty pictures of it.

Alright enough of the daily. Time to get back to the 240. I was only able to knock out a small amount of work today, as I'm still waiting on my god damn fucking seat to arrive. I hate waiting on parts.....Anyway. I started to remove the hood hinge and upper rail outer reinforcements as well as the main cowl. This servers two purposes. One makes it much easier to route the front down tubes that tie into the main cage, two it eliminates some soon to be needed material (thanks to the cage) The cowl will be welded back on once cage and downtubes are in

Now removing these now obsolete reinforcements leaves me with a good area to duct some engine heat out. I had a rough idea about what i wanted to do before i had removed any, but now that I've removed that i see that it can absolutely work. Ill be creating a triangulated vent on the top back end of the fender that will 1. Vent hot air from the engine bay and lower overall temperature and air pressure for better air movement for cooling, and 2. allow me to contour the air smoothly and with minimal drag around the side mirrors. I still need to remove those two small pieces however i want to keeo them in place until i run the down tube off the cage and can reinforce the hood mount holes so they dont get distorted.

After having that bracket removed and giving a good look, i think I'm just going to remove the factory inner wheel house completely and make my own. The mock up pictures with the wheel and tire were as high as they could go, as they were hitting the top of the wheel house. At first i was going to just modify the existing wheel house, but then i decided it would be
A. easier to just replace the entire thing with a nicer looking overall unit
B. allow me to remove the strut towers and make them 2'' taller to gain a bit more shock travel back after the car being lowered so much.
So in short new whole rear wheel houses and raised rear strut top mounts

How much of the fab work are you doing yourself?
Are you concerned about the chassis being so flimsy with all of this metal removed? Is there any plans to put it on a frame machine, and make sure it's good?
I love how crazy the build is, and can't wait to see some more!

I removed the other side bracket from atop the wheel well. Need to order some properly sized thick tubing to use as the rear strut towers before i cut out the old ones.

Lastly. seeing as I'm caging the car, this makes much of the upper roof and pillar braces obsolete. So i used the drill out the spot welds method and removed the two outer/upper braces. This gives me access to remove the central brace up top. Again i dont really need this brace as the roll cage will be doing its job, making it unnecessary weight.
I also cut out a larger portion of the roof so as much easier access to weld all the way around.

Finally got a bit more time to finish remove those upper braces from where I left off last time
This little fuckers were a bitch to remove, being high strength steel it took forever to drill through and a ton of force to bend and wiggle off.
Im glad i did remove them as there was some rust build up underneath the two outside panels. Nothing major, but would have sucked to get it all painted then have that show its face a while after.
After removing the two side pieces i was able to mark and drill out the center reinforcement. Again these will be obsolete once i have the cage in, so they were dead weight i could remove. All the work i did paid off as 1.I made more room to tuck the cage up and out of the way and 2. I removed 11 pounds from above the center of gravity. WIN WIN in my book. Just took a bit of time and sweat.

Little time here and there I'm slowly getting stuff done.
Took home some tools from work to remove the quarter glass. Just like the windshield someone terribly installed them after having them removed and the glass wasn't really all that "stuck" to the car. People dont realize the windshield plays a vital structural role to the integrity of the chassis in a wreck. Granted the quarter glass doesn't, but who wants there glass to come flying off on the highway lol

Once i had the glass removed i noticed the line where the roof meets the quarter panel. i always wondered where the roof line ended, and now i know. I also realized the "gutter area" that the rear hatch covers is part of the roof panel itself. This is a plus because that means i dont have to fill those holes. And this also means that the roof panel is the only joining panel at the rear since i removed that brace the other day. Again this is ok as the cage will the structural part up there. it also gives me maximum room to get the cage up and out of the way and have as much cabin space as possible.
This also means i have to get creative with the hatch hinge mounting. Will need to make some type of backing brace, and maybe make some small mounts that come off the main roller just as added security. Idk will have to play it by ear once i get the roof panel and hatch mocked up and tested.

I also noticed that there is a large area that could be open to the qtr glass and increase visibility. Once the rollbar is in i can possibly look into cutting out this section and opening up the biggest blind spot on the car. I need to check and see if the lexan qtr glass is full clear or if they come with the blacked out sections from the vendor

I also had a buddy of mine drop his car off for me to install his Karlton flares and his new wider Rpf1s. he showed up rocking hoosier slicks from driving an hour away. Like a boss.
