Yesterday I was driving around, looked down and saw the temp guage was all the way at the top, I was close to home, so I turned on the heat to full blast, rolled down the windows, and finished up nice and easy. Today I went out for a bit, did fine on the way out, temp stayed right at halfway, then on the way back it crept up to the top again, again I turned on the heat, rolled down the windows and finished the drive home.

I got home, checked the dipstick and opened looked through the oil cap hole, the oil is still nice and clear from the oil change 250 miles ago. There are no apparent leaks, no coolant on the ground, and the resovoir was still nice and half full. When I opened up the radiator cap though, I could hear the coolant moving from the resovoir down throught the piping, it made a sort of glug sound as if it was waiting for air to move so it could move the fluid down. the radiator looked a bit low, definitely not full up to the top. I closed it back up, a minute later I went to check it again just to be sure, and it made the same sound from the resovoir, and the radiator looked like it was at the same level. The resovoir is now just about empty.

Does anyone know what this might be? does my coolant just need to be flushed? Might it be the thermostat?

thanks,
Alden

oh, yeah and there was no smoke coming out of my exhaust, so I'm almost postive this is not a head gasket thing

mine ran fine and today it was hot out and I had the AC on max and when we parked it was seeping coolant out the overflow bottle. The engine runs fine and there is no smoke at all from the exhaust.
I don't know whats up.. I was thinking of filling with maybe 90/10 and some watter wetter since it isn't likely to freeze anytime soon in texas.

Sticking thermostat. Flush and bleed the air, check for proper heating of both hoses. Replace if required.

who, him or me?

I ran it over to jiffy lube today...yes i know I would prefer to do it myself too, but I live in an apartment and can't exactly dump the coolant down the drain...soooooo anyways they hooked it up to their machine and sucked the coolant system dry, he said the thermostat opened up like it should, and he didnt' find any leaks in the system. They filled it up and I drove it over to the highway to do a 10 mile test drive and get some gas, I ended up driving for probably about 25-30 minutes and had no problems with temps going past midway, so hopefully it is fixed

I replaced my cap (wasn't holding pressure) and filled with water (dont know if I bought it like this or the sticking cap let the rest out the overflow, but it was a liter low) and mine runs very cold now. yay.
