Wheel question

Hey guys,
I'm still fairly new to the s chassis and was wondering about the 17/18 inch staggered wheels setup you see now a days. What's the purpose? I come from the miata background where you want to keep your setup square.

but yeah it's really just personal preference. stagger looks good

^obviously bigger stagger would help with grip and higher power in the rear but how many 240s really need that stagger?
Especially on Zilvia where you have to make a thread about it.
