I just came across this idea. I'll be appreciated if someone could help me out with this.

I needed a rear view camera for backing up in a parking space to make sure i don't rear end in to another car.
So what if i buy a really cheap ($20?) dashcam and mount it on the lower side of the rear windshield. And connect it to separate monitor?
This would work just like a rear view camera.

Help me how i would hook these up together..

Thanks!

My first thought would be a USB camera with some sort of OTG cable but then you lose the usb port for charging the android device, you'd be left hard-wiring it into a circuit for power. Something similar to this ...

Maybe there is some sort of usb splitter or switch that would allow you to switch between the camera (when the device is charged) and the charger (whenever you arent using the camera)

this is what i came up with
Audiovox CMOS2 this as rear camera

buying a LCD monitor for this camera.
But then i can't really see how these hook up.. they use some weird hoax? cables

Instead of buying a bunch of junk to cobble together, why don't you just buy a cheap rear view camera?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-3-TFT-LCD-Car-Dashboard-Monitor-Rearview-Backup-Camera-Night-Vision-Kit-/400947407031?hash=item5d5a53e8b7:g:HTgAAOSwpdpVbyX w

Almost half the price and you don't need hoax cables.

If you have trouble backing a 240 into a parking spot and need a back up camera.....You should not be driving.

First hidden plates to avoid tolls and now back up cameras.... What happened to Tech Talk?

Personally think it's a sweet idea. Mine came standard in my new daily and it's pretty damn helpful even for the experienced driver.
