Hey guys, so I picked up a 92 s13 hatch with a rebuilt KA24DE with about 7200 on a fresh rebuild.

Car runs flawlessly except a minor coolant leak on the hose connected to the throttle body. We fixed the leak(thought so atleast)

Well, was on the interstate on my way to work. Car running great, all of a sudden notice a loss in power, first instinct is to look at tempature and sure enough it's over heating. Put it in neutral and go to the emergency lane and it stalls the minute it is out of gear. I allow it to cool down naturally and I insert coolant into radiator and try to start it. The belts and pulleys spin, but it sounds like absolutely no compression. Grabbed my compression check and checked compression in #3 and it read 0

Pretty much all I hear is a starter spinning and no sound of the motor compressing. Will do a more thorough compression check when it is home.

Sounds EXACTLY like this guy's problem....

my experience with KA's is once they over heat, its a warped cylinder head maybe more especially if its losing power and dieing after overheating

The excessive heat could also cause the rings to expand and if there wasnt enough end gap on the rings this could force them outwars into the cylinder walls causing some cylinder and ring damage

how far up did the temp gauge go? regardless the cylinder heads gotta come off at the least if you have no compression

If you run an engine low on coolant, your temperature sensor doesn't have any liquid to detect temperature with. It must have coolant flow to function. You can be running well over 195F but you won't know it because your temp gauge is (incorrectly) displaying normal temp.

Your cylinder head is severely warped. Probably well past the service limit. Throw it in the trash and buy another.

I didn't look too far into it once I saw piston 3, but pretty positive head is warped, headgasket was toast, the rings were melted in all 4 probably. I don't care I have a built SR to replace it

We'll see you back in a couple of months. With the same problem as this one.
