Quick torque spec question..

Finished up my ka24de 5 speed swap last night. my buddy said he was bringing his torque wrench but ended up forgetting it. I know the torque specs for the flywheel bolts are 105-115 foot lbs, so I just used a breaker bar and cranked them as hard as I could.. for the pressure plate I used a 3/8th's socket wrench and tightened the shit out of them too (probably anywhere between 25-50 foot lbs im guessing). Today I was having second thoughts about it and researched it to find the pressure plate bolt are only supposed to be 16-22 foot pounds.. shit..

do you think ill be ok? or should I go get the torque wrench, and take the tranny off all over again just to be safe?

that is up to you. Many "mechanics" do not use torque wrenches either. I've seen em push bolts onto those critical components with air tools.

It might work, it might not. There is a reason the factory says use "X" amount of force. Asking people on a public forum that do not engineer auto parts is a mistake.

I would do it right, unless you can afford to do it twice.

Personally, I would be a bit concerned with the flywheel torque. I AM a PROFESSIONAL technician and I've always torqued flywheels down. I also ALWAYS apply a dab of lock-tite to the flywheel and clutch pressure plate bolts, just to be safe. Honestly though I think you'll be fine. The torque for these components aren't really that critical.

I'd be more worried about the pressure plate bolts. Over tightening those affects the functionality of the fins on it. Also I never have to crank them at all. It's always a light torque.

Take it all apart and start over. Put loctite on flywheel bolts. End of story.

without a torque wrench I would say for flywheel a little less than as tight as you can get em with just arm strength and no body weight (standing up and pushing your arm down). when the engine starts to turn to one side is where I'd stop.

for pressure plate, put your hand next to the drive on the wrench (not at the end of the handle) and snug em up, not to tight as they are pretty easy to snap.

......or go to o-reilly's and get a freakin $40 torque wrench.......

Get the craftsman for 25...accurate for life not a clicker
