Hello,

My car is a 1996 240SX SE, I have an RS*R Exmag exhaust sitting in my garage, it's been there a while now and I decided to go ahead and get it installed this weekend, I just am curious if it all bolts up fine, I am running stock KA right now, I do plan on going turbo soon, just putting the parts together. I was going to get a free flow cat as well, but have not yet and just wanted to make sure it will bolt up fine to the stock piping. I just don't want to get to the shop and have my dude look at me funny asking for a part I fail to bring in. The exhaust did come with gaskets and bolts....so should I be good

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but better safe than look like a tool

Thanks to all those that reply with helpful info

If the exhaust was made for a 95-98 240sx then yes it will fit fine.

It might bolt up kinda weird to the stock cat if it's the 80mm (turbo) version, but no biggie. I could be wrong on this part though...

Yes it is the 95-98 version, I just was not sure if it would bolt right up to the stock piping, since they are different diameters.

Thanks for the quick reply I appreciate it very much. If anyone has any more info or things to be aware of I would love to hear your thoughts

Everything bolted up fine on mine, and it's the 80mm.

The stock exhaust slips into the stock "cat" cause it's so small. They match up better than stock.

sorry to jack the thread, but how does the piping hang on the rsr? I have dual n1's (on an s13) and i scrape the bejesus out of it everywhere i go... just wondering how low the piping is compared to the n1's...

I have the RSR...I love it, it bolted up to the stock cat just fine. As far as scraping...none so far...but I drive like a grandma over bumps...damn fiberglass bumpers...

Me and Eddie installed your RSR exhaust (it's easier as a 2 man job). RSR is one of the best fitting and easiest to bolt up exhaust i've done in a while. On Johns RSR the fit was perfect me and ed got the muffter bolt onto the B pipe in one or two trys. Also, what i liked was how the exhaust completely clears the drive shaft assembly (like my HKS) unlike greddy BL/ PE/ PE2 exhaust systems sometimes (bad design). It bolts up to catalyst very easily also. thumbs up! :boink:

Not that I was suggesting I did it, but upon inspection of the undercarriage, I found it to fit really well...Bolting up to the cat just fine.

I had to take out the tow hitch because it would bang against the tip of the exhaust sometimes on the fwy. it fits perfect and bolts up just fine other than that, no clearance issues at all. But i've scraped up the muffler quite a bit tho since my driveway has a 45degree incline.

Guys.............tell me how this exhaust sounds. I want a 80mm exhaust but want it to be stealth and quieter than the usual.

On turbo car its VERY quiet. On NA car its quite deep and loud (i've had it for 3 months and the exhaust note keeps getting deeper).

Yea, until you hammer the gas!!!! I have to say, that I have been tailed by a few CHP's and they don't even blink at me...very stealth. The whole design may not be very eye catching, but then again, I don't want the wrong eyes to be looking anyhow.

Thanks goes out to Howard at Phase2, if not for his ride, I would not have gone with the RSR...very impressive.

not that i ment to offend u or be sarcastic. I just was very impressed w/ your exhaust (so was eddie). Good choice, if i didnt have my HKS i'd buy the same type of exhaust. i've done an install (backyard or w/ lift) on number of 240sx exhaust and i felt the fitament of your specifc exhaust was bar none one of the best.

Best to worst rank of ones i installed:
2. HKS Hiper 25th tie
2. RSR exmag tie
3. Apex n1
4. blitz nurspec (old type) hangar was weird and flakey, corrected in new type
5. Greddy 60mm SP = hits drive shaft
6. Greddy 80mm Power Extreme 2 - worst hits driveshaft and piping was off and hits the rear bumper support, bad hangar design.

i just bolted the RSR gt2 its pretty nice fit well. And if ya have any broken rubber hanger just put a couple zip ties around it, works nicely untill the new ones get here

I just picked up my RSR exmag this morning, and I got to say I was a bit suprised: no res? This thing is more a test pipe then a catback.

Now my question is: did you guys get a res or not?

I got it from an RSR dealer, but somehow they still looked bootleg to me. I have a S14 KA.

Thanks.

A resinator helps to quiet down the exaust quite a bit. All quiet exausts have a decent sized resinator

Exmag is quiet w/o resonator on SR and is loud on KA.

I was thinking about getting an rsr. I have no cat on my car, just a straight pipew/ resonator leading from the downpipe. What piping does the exmag come with. Could i just get an exhaust shop to cut my current exhaust off, put a flange at the cut-off point, and bolt on the exmag?

what makes the exmag so quite?

I think the EXMAG is quiet mainly owing to the large muffler. While it is a straight-through design, there is a large amount of room for sound deadening inside. Now, I could be totally wrong, I'm just guessing based on my inspection of mine.

I have the Exmag with a Catco, just banged out the tow hook yesterday. I bought it in 80mm in preparation for my swap. Right now I still have the KA, and it's pretty damn loud, not really stealthly at all. It wobbles a bit, but I think thats mostly just cause I'm missing the hanger bushing for the pipe.
IMO it's the best looking exhuast on the market, hopefully the SR will be alot quieter.

I just installed the RSR on a KA N/A, and it's very quiet. I guess it depends on the compression of your engine. The first 2 hours it was very loud then it just died :D

Now even some of my friend think it's just a tip or an axle back.

Hello All

I just wanted to give an update (I started this thread..lol). I got my Exmag installed and could not be happier. It is not loud at all and I am NA/KA, it looks subtle yet has style. I am putting my turbo kit together right now, but as it is, I think it works/sounds/looks fantastic..I hate the coffee cans attached to most of the 240's I see..this seems just way more..refined. Even my wife likes it (was a bit concerned about that :eek3: ). Also for me the big compliment was when my boss, who is a Mustang/domestic man said "Hell I would drive an import if it sounded like that, that is what I want my cars to sound like". Anyways wanted to just post the follow up. I took pics and may post them later when I am at home.

Final Verdict: This exhaust kicks ass, it is beautiful, subtle(like a very sporty factory piece with balls), sounds great even NA, will only get better with turbo. Even my mechanic (who runs a muffler/brake shop and used by me only for his lift when needed) said it was the best fitting after market exhaust he has ever put on a car..was done in 10-15 minutes.

If you are looking for an exhaust, I cannot recommend one higher.

Man I must have a different version or something. On my KA its loud as hell. My friend can hear me as soon as I get off the fwy and his house is more than half a mile from it

Haha yeah that reminds me, I was messing around in this parking lot with the new exhaust on and my scanner goes off, saying some lady woke up and called the cops from a street that was a good 4 blocks from were I was!
