I actually wouldnt mind one.. but with the sudden rush of quick releases on teh market... (I think they are all copies of each other no?) it would be useless to have one to prevent theft soon .. Im I not right?? With the way our market goes.. everyone wants to make money, so those that make theft deturant devices, thrive on the theives to make profit.. ehh blah..
i dunno.. I still want one to use as a spacer anyways,.,

I just purchased that same unit from Grant for $30 more. :wtc: It does the job, and has absolutely no slop in any direction which a lot of quick release hubs have. My horn doesn't work yet, but I believe I just need to adjust the little screws that transfer the electricity through the hub.

Are those universal?....looks pretty good, has anybody brought one from them?
looks similar to the NRG ones that my friends have. i wouldn't doubt they're all from the same manufacturer.

It's just the quick release, right, goes between the wheel and hub? Or is it a hub adapter as well?

The quick release hub goes inbetween the hub adapter and the steering wheel. You'll need to purchase a MOMO/Sparco/Nardi hub specific for your vehicle before you purchase the quick release.
In my case, I used a HKB hub, NRG quick release and 50mm spacer..

I believe the NRG quick release hub is a copy for the Woodbell Rapfix. It is made in Taiwan, but it works fine. My friend has had his for months without incident. The one I have is working perfectly and I love it. Phase2 sells the NRG for $120, so check it out if you're interested. I've seen a lot of crap on eBay, MUGEN intakes for Nissans and so on, however, be careful on what you buy.

i know the L2 quick-release is made in the same factory as the splash hub. some of the people from PG run them and so do i. altho since you are grant 5-bolt you may just have to toss that setup entirely are go with the more common 6-bolt setup. unless you get a quick-release that involves you welding the stationary piece to the splines of the steering column itself.

the cleanest quick release i've seen is the one Signal Auto sales... my friend owns one of these and its very high quality...also an expensive price tag too
Dousan_PG

expensive as in overpriced
the woodbell would be a far better buy
signal you need to line up
woodbell you jsut slap on, spin wheel and LOCKS

bam done
i have the L2
http://www.splparts.com/Parts/Universal/Interior/Driver.asp
http://www.jspec.com/l2spac.html
definately not as good as the woodbell but for the cost i had paid (dirty cheap), i can live with it. needs some greasing though
my friend has the woodbell, MUCH smoother and definately of a higher quality!

i want my exhaust to detach so that when i walk away, i can take it with me..
that way if anyone tries to steal it, my car will be super loud and they'll get arrested.
then, my car will get impounded and marked for "ref inspection" but hey, its worth it, y0.

Sirwarrior just paranoid about everyone else when ur car is in public view. i take mine in my bag while im at school. bag never leaves my sight. got an arm or leg around it during class. I am switching over to different bolts altogether so an allen key wont even work
Dousan how does your seating position appear with the L2 spacer since you have the bride and im assuming you are running low rails(which rails in particular)
Dousan_PG
09-10-2004, 08:21 AM
its about a 60some mim spacer so go from there
i had it w/ my s13 on a bride brix w/ bride rails. so im getting a new seat shortly
but it doesnt change seat position, i dont know why you ask that.

So wear a backpack or messenger bag. Stuff the wheel in your bag before you go so you don't look like a tool.

...I was thinking the same thing.. WOW.. b/w the QR hub, spacer, and dished wheel, he must have 6" of extension on that thing. haha
btw - your really suppose to have the quick release directly behind the steering wheel. The purpose of the quick release was to get out of a car quickly and safely in the case of an accident or fire in a race car. Having the quick release further away makes getting the wheel off a bit more trickey, and lengthens the time you spend sitting in flames...
...but alas it's a street car, so it really doesn't matter at all.

makes sense.. and besides.. thats extra lugguage to carry around.. esp to class etc..

On the other hand, in an emergency, this setup may be better. Think about it, this way the extension is out of the way when removed, otherwise it would impede exit from the car.

with a full bucket a quick release IS key to get out often. at least for me, i like the wheel close, but no ON my chest, but a good close distance. some like more, some less
i find mine perfect for what i have. i want a nardi rally but thats' another 60mm too much
anyways, ill get some pisc w/ the new car setup later.

I know this might sound lame...but if your trying to deter someone from stealing your car...why don't you just stash it in the trunk? Maybe under the carpet? Intsead of carrying it around? Because if I am a smart crook and have cased your car...I'm bringing Vise-Grips.
Dousan_PG

exactly! that's why kill switches are KEY to the security of the car.
but the more ways you secure your car alarm, wheel, kill switches, etc the better.
and these quick release wheels are so common, a good thief would already have one haha

That was my concern with these things becoming popular and cheap...
leaving teh wheel inside the car ,
well its like this.. why have special wheel locks when you leave the freaking key inside teh car?? lol

Actually, my steering wheel is chest-crushingly close to me. But not too close that I'm super uncomfortable, but I've gotten used to it. You guys are right though, the correct way to put the spacer is behind the quick release. But I did it the other way around so that after I detach the steering wheel, I have an extra 50mm of clearance from the male part of the hub. It just gives me more room to move around, and the extra room will make a big difference when the bucket seat goes in.
So my steering wheel has this huge protruding spacer and female adapter on it and I don't mind. Most of the time I'm too lazy to take of the steering wheel. In the CA heat, the quick release gets super hot and I don't want to touch it. But when I do remove it, I usually lock it in the trunk. When I get my roll cage in, I'll just chain it to that. Instead of walking around like a weirdo with a steering wheel. I don't know, but walking around campus with a steering wheel in hand or strapped to a backpack looks kinda tacky. That's just my opinion though. A removable steering wheel just adds to a "layer" security system. A quick release alone won't deter a potential thief, but an alarm, kill switch, autolock, lowjack and any other combination will. It's all about making your car look like a pain in the ass to steal.

drift into a curb

Kenny I gotta check that out next time. I liked how close it was last time, but with the quick release, that looks like I could use my mouth to steer. I can't tell, but is it uncomfortable shifting since the position of your wheel is closer? You should get a spacer for your shift knob too.
