i was wondering can i replace my oe tank for a fuel cell? i want to keep it in the same location , i need my trunk space , and if i can, can someone direct me to a cell that would fit. i dont care if i have to custom mount it. my old tank gave out and the strap that holds it up broke so i dont feel like replacing the tank and then the strap cracks the new one .

stock tank is easier

you could get rid of the spare wheel well and do a flush mount tank there...

I was trying to avoid the trunk because this will be a daily driver, I don't want to blow up because someone reared me

If you buy a real fuel cell it should be safer then a stock fuel tank in the event of a crash, that is the whole idea. Now is this a S13 or a S14? If it is a S13 the fuel tank is right under the spare wheel so putting a fuel cell above that should not make it more dangerous. If you are worried put in a firewall.

EDIT: I guess I should read the title of the tread. Anyways on S14 you likely won't find something you can just shove into the stock spot and get the same amount of fuel due to the tank being an odd shape. Your choices are reduced fuel capacity, or shove it in the trunk. If you have a proper cage system built for it you should be safe.

Replacing the stock fuel tank with a new part from Nissan and getting a couple new straps from Nissan would still be a lot cheaper than a decent (FIA approved) fuel cell. You won't run into problems with the tank or straps giving out for another 20 years, no fab work, no expense of a custom molded fuel cell, no pain of motorsports related fuel plumbing etc.

I have a full on race car, and I like the stock tank for everything but running ultra light on fuel at a TT event.

There are still places to get them. Nissan direct might not but there is still stock in the US at dealers last I checked.

Surprisingly they still do, I put my tank replacement on the back burner for about 2 years now because it leaks lightly onto my subframe and the price for a brand new oem one went from ~$300 a year ago to ~$408 now even with my dealer discount.

I have built two fuel cells for customers where they were 10 gal fuel cells that mounted in the stock location for S14. Making myself one in the future as well as it saves space. Has to be custom made though unless you get small enough ones
