S13 coupe lights

So my s13 has the map lights, not the dome lights,
where it has the two buttons for either side of the lights and then a switch in the center to open and close the sunroof/moonroof.
my question is, when i open my doors, those lights do not come on, only when i press them in. any reason to this?

They are map lights, not a dome light.

Map lights in all vehicles that I'm aware of have to be manually turned on.
The dome light is tied into the doors to assist the occupant(s) to get in the car. Not to assist the occupant(s) to read a map when they get in a vehicle

ah i see, im just replacing all my bulbs slowly so im just checking up on everything, know how to replace the map light bulbs? just pop the entire thing off?
