I work and nissan as many of us probably do but some on at mine sent me this and i couldnt really agree more with what hes saying. If any one is working at nissan they know that all that really goes on is CVT's and that the maxima looks nice, but what happend to it having a manual trans instead of the POS cvt it carries http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/12/what-the-hell-has-happened-to-nissan/

i find speedhunters as entertainment for the pictures, not so much the written articles themselves. But still better than jalopnik for creditable news imo.

I work at a Nissan dealership, as I'm sure many of us probably do, but that's neither here nor there. Some one I work with sent me this link (http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/12/what-the-hell-has-happened-to-nissan/) and I couldn't possibly agree more with what the author is saying. If any one else on this forum happens to work at a Nissan dealership, I would imagine they feel the same way I do when Nissan only offers the Maxima in a CVT. Sure, the Maxima looks nice, but what happened to having a Manual Transmission as an option instead of being saddled with the POS CVT it comes equipped with?

That said, Nissan is not alone in this and it really comes down to the fact that the majority of the new car buying market doesn't want a stick. The fact that you're really not gaining anything in terms of shift times or MPG's with modern electronically controlled transmissions means there's no reason for the mfgs. to offer anything other than what'll make the masses comfy. Sure, there are the few of us that still cling to the 'spirit of the driving experience' and insist on having a lever at arms reach with which to row through the gears, but do you think the auto mfgs. care at all about that? No, they don't wan't to cater to people who are more likely to abuse the car and bring it in on warranty claims when the weak spots start showing through. They certainly don't want to focus any of their energy at people that are going to want to take their car around a track or modify it at all. Those people don't do much to further the brand's recognition in reliability and comfort, which is what they're selling. Instead, they'll pitch to you the same way that the Hummer H2 was pitched to the buying public. "Hey look at what all you could tackle if ever the need should arise!" (all the while the ticker at the bottom of the screen is scrolling a million reasons their lawyers are specifically telling you to refrain from doing such things even in the event that such a need should arise) So let's give the people a car that has a bold design, paddle shifters, and some well bolstered leather bucket seats, all in a fiery red package that get's the heart racing, so they can feel a little less crappy about themselves as they sit in traffic while the kids fight over the last goldfish in the backseat.

That's right, the 2016 Nissan Maxima Luxury Sedan... think about all of the great times you could be having, in what we used to call our four door sports car.

^ Shocker. Sounds like Nissan wants to make money. Grocery getters make money. Look at the top 10 selling vehicles in 2014. All of them are 4 door vehicles. Not one sports car on the list.



Let's be honest with ourselves. If you were the president of a company and had to be responsible for a bottom line which one would you build? A sedan that will likely end up selling pretty well that may need only a slight re-design from a current model or a brand new model that will require millions if not billions of dollars of R&D money that based on current market trends is likely not to be a mass seller?


As much as I love the Nissan I accept that company which produced legendary cars (and almost went broke) no longer exists and to find my thrills I am either driving 90's cars, buying a Mustang/Camaro or an M1/2/3/4. If you want a 4cyliner RWD turbo car, buy a mustang *Paging Corbic*
