Yeah, I realize that I made this topic a few weeks ago. Different car now though...

Okay. 1991 240SX. 103k miles. Moonroof. Runs nice, paint in great condition.

....Problems. One of the muffler tips has corroded off. Noisier than it should be. Rusty patch about the size of a baseball below the rear spoiler. Some rust in front of the spoiler as well. Rust on bottom of one rear fender. And maybe some rust on inside firewalls. There is also a small piece of plastic over the taillights missing- about an inch long, maybe a centimeter wide. Also, the A/C isn't very cold.

The guy posted 2500 for it, he accepted 2000. It's my first car, and I'm concerned with the fact that my dad didn't want to take it in for any disgnostic tests or even run a Carfax. Didn't check the underbody either...he basically examined it, we took it for a short test drive, and said he'd take it. And we said we'd pick it up Tuesday.

What to do...what to do... :(

Your doomed to a bad first car ! ! J/K. When I got my 240, it was listed for 6hours on auto trader before I bought it. It was for 2000 but managed to get it for 1500 cash. It was a 93 se coupe, no a/c, no radio, winshieled wippers did not work, 178k on a broken odometer, that broke to the privious owner then the owner I bought it from, No speedometer, the car could not keep idle, leaked oil, and all of this was complimented by some nice dents, and a spraypainted front bumper. To this day, that was the greatest invesment I have bought. Yours sounds very nice despite the rust.

A year later, after me ragging on it and buying a couple of things for it. The same motor with probably 200k had a perfect compression of 180 180 178 180 and pulled 149.4rwhp with 148.7rwtq with just basic bolt ons. Your car should be great just take care of that rust.

Sorry, I would say keep looking, be more patient and find one with no rust...just last year I bought my 90 with ZERO rust and only 83k for $1600. It took me three months of searching the net everyday and a ton of patients, but it was worth it in the end...

i bought a 90 5spd with a little rust (they ALWAYS have a little rust) for 1400 right before people started going balls out for 240's.

i wouldnt worry bout hte spoiler/hatch rust, every single hatch 240, on the street or junkyard had that rust there..i just got a spoilerless hatch to replace it. Checkin the underbody tho for rust would be a good idea tho

agreed. spoiler rust is normal. but you really want to take a good look under the body. giant holes = bad.

Well, I guess I lucked out. We picked it up today. I looked under it once I got it back, rust-free. So I'm now the proud owner of a lovely '91 240. I'd post pics here, but I don't have any image resizer, and I don't want to whore out the site's bandwidth, so I will link to 'em.
