ok so me and my friend were working on getting my swap done and managed to get the motor and tranny out of the front clip and onto a trailer for now, we got the wiring harness and everything else on it off clean and we have the KA ready to be hoisted out. we also found some awesome rips in the frame where the previous owner had soemone chain him up and pull him outta somewehre....and a bent tie rod. so theres some more work to be done but its all cheap. ill post up the pics when i get em from his girlfriend. :2f2f:

hah...no sorry this is my first sr swap and i was going to have some experienced help, but situations have made things less than perfect. weve just pretty much had 2 full days of work now and the engine bay is being cleaned now and rust spots sandblasted and painted over. We also had to weld those ridiculous tears in the frame as well. We decided that were going to take the catalytic converter and use the shell to go around some 3" custom piping all the way from the downpipe back...i kind of ruined my shitty muffler on my last joyride with the KA motor in it. so thats going as well. ive been pretty much trying to balance going to school, working two jobs and this project an hour away from my house and i think were making good progress for never having done it before...but if this needs to be done again now we know exactly what we need so far. well this weekend i should drop in my new accessories and everything and ill be up and running assuming nothing goes wrong (which it will)..pics soon....sorry about that

Although the keyboard warriors on zilvia.net might disagree, the SR swap is a bit more involved than an oil change.

I've probably spent 60 hours (~10 days) on mine and I just finished the wiring.

Off the top of my head, I still need to:
-- install the IC hoses
-- install throttle cable
-- install clutch hard line
-- install AIV block-off plug
-- install exhaust/downpipe
-- install the radiator hoses
-- install shifter/trans gear oil
-- install complete front suspension from clip

TIPS:
-- When you are installing the drivetrain, use a prybar to line up the trans mount holes!
-- Take your time on the wiring. Get lots of electrical tape, heat shrink tubing and solder.

Todd

exactly. i figure since its my car, well take our time and get it done well and make the wiring as clean as possible instead of a weekend rush job. its not like we have 5 other cars to do as well, so yea im just takin it slow and whatnot.
i also just found out that i have to work on saturday from 11-5AM, so im pretty pissed off about that because it means ill have to work all day on my car and then take off and work all night...then come back and work on it sunday. but anyways ill keep you guys posted and ill have some pics next time

Although the keyboard warriors

TIP:
-- When you are installing the drivetrain, use a prybar to line up the trans mount holes!

STRONG HAND TIP:

When installing the drive train, LOSSEN trans mount from bushing, you're able to line up and tighten down drive train w/o hassle ( or need for pry bar), after its secure, you may now tighten down the mount to the bushing.

from experience taking the KA out is the longest tast. tip take the KA before you get started on puttin the new engine in. that way you have time to clean things out and get rid of the old engine. if you can take the engine mounts off from the motor mounts attatched to the crossmember if make the gutting easyer. also put them on the new motor before you put it in. once again makes things easyer. getting the drive shaft off, take off the diff and take it off that way then put the new one on. also make sure that you to all the wiring up outside, save the little clips on the plugs you will need them. as far as tranny allining, use a jack and you can push it around pretty easily. get things checked out my a pro when you done. if you guys need any products at good prices let me know. i can help you get what you need with the most trustworthy people.

Are you kidding me? I once did an SR swap by myself in 3 hours while bombed out on mescaline and speed. I would've done it quicker, too, if the fucking motor mounts had shut up when I told them to.

The guy you said hi to was probably JB, the previous owner of the car, but he's kinda MIA now; I talked to his mom and she has no idea where he is. But yeah, I'm familiar with coss street. My friend Wrienne with the white audi lives in the brown building with the singles.

lol keyboard warriors. Yeh I get a little sick of reading about people doing swaps in 12 hours and shit like its no thing. Phhss whatever. Think about this community, alot of the people getting into swaps and whatnot have changed their oil and spark plugs and thats about it. So when people are like "Yeah man drop in SR in that biznatch" is like them telling you to go and run in a cow field in the dark- Its gonna be shitty.

Before I got a 240 I paid through the nose to get a stupid clutch changed on my acura just because I looked at that FSM and was like "godamn they want me to drain the tranny fluid?!" no thanks. But now after owning a couple 240's and taking them to the track and whatnot I can't think of a single thing on a 240 I wouldn't want to try and do. Most of it is pretty easy, you just have to get your hands dirty and try it out.

Have fun with your motor swap. I just recently learned how much easier it is to get the motor mounted when there is no exhaust or driveshaft in the way...guh so much faster getting everything mounted.

yea i was pretty worried about doing this swap without any real prior experience with swapping motors from different cars and whatnot, but it seems a lot easier than i expected. im glad that the guy we had coming to help us that had done it before didnt come, because we got to figure a lot out for ourselves, sans what i searched for

man...that guy and his freakin subwoofers :ugh: theyve woken me up a few times lol. but whatever. yea stop by sometime. beers

update bump: day three

we sandblasted all the rust out of the engine bay, swapped all extra parts onto my motor and dropped it in along with the tranny. the engine bay got a nice satin black job on it and i think it looks nice. Also looks nice to not see an engine bay full of grease and gunk. Tomorrow, were doing the wiring and connecting the hoses again. Should be fun!

day 4...well we didnt get to start till about 5 because i had work and we had to drive to seth's hosue an hour away afterwards, but we got the power steering high pressure line brazed and it looks really nice. we got the shroud on the driveshaft trimmed a little and connected it back on having an oil change pit in the barn REALLY helped there. we were just able to stand underneath the car and take bolts on and off so easily. i love his shop. The wiring was messed with minimally and we only really worked about 5 hours but we acomplished something else, so were happy. this upcoming weekend, hes skipping his race and were going to try and finish it up. im guessing it will be done, but little details like the spedometer (digital in KM), the intercooler bracket mounting and whatnot are going to slow things down a bit. Hopefully ill be rolling around this weekend coming up by sunday. Thanks for all of your guys' input. You guys are always helpful.
