bought my s14 in january for 4150 (could have got it cheaper, but whatever), and last week I hit a deer. total damage cost was about $3700, then sent an email to me saying that the car is worth $2519. i feel like that is bs and i'm just wondering if theres a way that i can go about to upping that value, and/or how you guys would go about after hearing this. f*** peoples drift tax's man

they use the NADA guidelines. I put in a 96 with 120000 (shot in the dark, usually the avg. for its age), and the number you gave is right in line with what the NADA is suggesting. Sucks bro, but to the general public, these cars aren't worth much.

There is a way. If you show them listings of 5-10 cars of the same year make and model they will take the average price and give you that. Last time I had a car accident that's what they did, not sure if laws have changed.

Seems like other people "drift tax" would be your best friend in this situation. I dont necessarily agree with the term "drift tax" but if you find a few higher $ ads listed locally like OBWN suggested, then "drift tax" will get your money back.

For your next car ask you agent to give you "stated value," at least thats what i think its called. Pretty much they total up all the parts on the car and insure the car for that price. its time consuming and costs a little more but works out in your favor.

DON'T take that check.

Find cars in your local area over the value they're offering. Tell them you cannot replace the car if that's the total amount they're going to give you.

Show them those ads as proof.

I had fairly minor front end damage to a '99 G20T from some chick running into me in an alley.

Damage was almost $4,000 at the shop my insurance company sent me to.

Not only is the labor cost crazy high, they nitpick everything.
