I'm getting some research done to get this piece installed onto my S14 SR20DET. I'm running my SR in a Datsun 510, Microtech ECU. Other info, I'm not running a heater/core.
With all that said, I think I can eliminate/block this part (Circled red) of the intake assembly as I think no coolant needs to flow here since I won't use the water temp sensor (I can just pull temps from somewhere else and don't have the factory plugs since I'm running a new wire loom from Microtech), and typically (I think) this hardline L elbow would run to the S chassis heater core, which I don't have since I have this in a different car.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

clearly you have never seen an rb26dett.

that long rectangular bracket on top of the inlet plenum is part of the armature that operates ITBs on a turbo engine. its not uncommon. iirc the new bmw turbo engines are itb as well

That thread may help you in deciding if you want to block it or not as I think it has something to do with the intake air temperature and idling. I could be wrong but just something I remember from a friend.

never have seen an rb26, but posting a picture of something that's been done doesn't justify the reason behind it lol. I asked "why".
imo its kinda pointless to go through all the trouble, time and money to have turbo with itbs for minimal gain, but each to their own i guess.

Throttle response.
agreed. Throttle response is significantly increased when going to an ITB setup.
To the original poster. Personally, I wouldn't advise going to a different location to pull a coolant temp. It will effect your idle, especially when the engine isn't warmed up. I can understand wanting to run a clean engine bay, but not having any sort of heat/defroster system just seems kind of silly...that is, unless you plan on driving this purely on the track . Kudos on deciding to take the path less traveled and invest in some quality/rare parts. I'd love to see where this build ends up. Again, I'm just some guy on the internet. Take it or leave it.

RB26 in GTRs and SR20dets in Pulsar GTI-R come factory with ITBs... :picardfp:
and no, its not pointless.

Pretty sure that's also where the cylinder head gets some of its coolant supply.

I quite agree with this ... the budget for ITBs can pay for much better mods.
And there is the problem of keeping them in sync, too. Yes, it is better... when set correctly. But i'd rather use nitro shots to help spool up, these are turbo engines, throttle response is way more compounded by turbo and intercooler than by ITBs.

Shouldn't be difficult to keep them in sync when they still all operate off of one throttle cable and it's still fuel injected and has a tps sensor.
If it was side draft carburetors with velocity stacks then I would understand.

i got itbs on my fuel injected bike engine. it still needs syncing every 20kmiles.

It's so funny how I originally asked about plugging the coolant to the heater hose, and this ends up in talking about the positive and negatives to ITBs.
Shaking head.
Thanks anyways guys, I got the answer I needed from a very knowledgeable friend. Just wanted to know Zilvia's 2 cents.
