Why bash the 6-speed tranny?

I have heard a lot about the 6-speed bieng a P.O.S.  Anyway, I am looking into the s-15 250hp SR20DET engine, and it comes with the 6-speed.  Then I saw posts saying to chuck the 6-speed.  Why?
Doesn't it seem that if Nissan is gonna put a lot more power into a new engine, shouldn't the 6-speed, bieng newly designed, be good?

i'm not sure much about the tranny but i've heard it really sux too.
the tranny just doesn't handle well wif the shifting or gearing or something like that.
everyone recommends getting an S14 tranny for it, which i'd prolly do anyhoo if i'd get that engine.

I dont speak from experiance but I have heard the 6Speed from the s15 is kinda crappy. Donno why. I would LOVE to have a 6speed so I could keep my turbo spooled perfectly at any speed.

well maybe vehicle specific 6-speeds suck by certain companies, I know the Supra 6-speed is very nice and reliable so maybe it's a nissan thing. I've never owned a 5 speed car, my camaro is 4 and my supra is 6 so I can't tell you in a 5 speed is better than a 6 speed in general.

i've heard the S15 SR transmission is the same casing as the other transmissions, but in order for them to fit an extra gear in there, they had to make the gears skinnier. so if you did a lot of bad shifts, the gears would break since they are weaker. and a lot of people with the new silvias in japan switch out for the 5 speeds.

whateverjames is correct, same space, one more gear, result, weaker, smaller components. I say keep the 6 speed for the novelty of it but be ready to buty an S-15 tranny if you are going to beat on it.
