View Full Version : 215/45 or 235/40 tyres for a 17x9 rim?

Yes I know I know, check rimtuck.com, look at fitment thread etc

But its really bugging me because I see cars with 215/45 on 17x9 and it looks great, but on mine it looks like balloons.

So I am tempted to switch to 235/40 to make it look better and get more rubber on the ground.

I know different tyres stretch differently but damn lol.

What do you guys think?

I have Bridgestone RE003's at the moment, photo below.

not sure what to say, check the wheel fitment question thread

You'll lose 2.75mm (0.11") of sidewall heighy by switching to the 235/40. 215/45 has a sidewall height of 96.75mm (3.81"), and 235/40 has 94mm (3.7"). I run 205/45 on my 17x9, 92.25mm (3.63") sidewall, but I'm sure you want more rubber and less stretch by looking at this post.

They look like balloons because the car is tall. Not trying to be a kok about it either. The rear doesn't tuck any tire and the front has a good inch or two of a gap. Switching tires won't help you in this case. Car doesn't look bad though. Serious potential to look cool. Lower your car all around and it'll look real good.

Yup. Just lower it a bit and it will look great.

With 215/40 up front you can go at least another 10-15mm lower and the car will look cool as fukc but it will scrape all the time when you like to drive fast ^^

What are the wheel specs on that? Is there a build thread anywhere?

:picardfp: Then be quite. We cant help you if you cant fix your sh8tty moster truck ride height

your ride height is fine, proper suspension geometry, just needs real sized tires not some stancy pants bullshit.

Well... i'm gonna go on a limb and say those wheels are probably a stancy pants offset.
If grip and style was the goal you cram a 10j in the +35ish offset with a fat ass tire and a bit of a roll/pull in the rear not a sub 20 offset.
Car looks so odd, my mind instantly flipped to "lol someone shopped the car higher"

What's the offset? I use 235/40 on 17x9 +20 with just rolled fenders. My reason for that tire size was that it is the smallest approved size for a 9" wheel. I track my car quite often a did not want to risk a tire de-beading. I will likely be going 245/40 as I still have some clearance between the tires and fenders. I would love to use 255/40 as I know they would fit the front, but my rear offset will not allow that. I would need something like +35.

what you want...? If you like the look and how it drives just keep it as it is. car looks dope anyway tbh! :)

10/8 coils and you can def. lower than that. but its bumpy^^

No, 235 is the smallest approved size. Anything narrower, I'd be concerned.

This is what I'm talking about. And this only looks like street driving, let alone conditions on the track.

thats clearly like 195/40 on a 10j
A friend had trouble debeading on a 205/35 on i think it was a 9.5j but i believe my other pal had no debeading with a 205/35 on 9j.

The only thing the ops debeading is his anal beads. I run 215 on a 9.5 and Ive never had issues.

Just do 235/40's it will look much better and handle better as well!
I have them on the front and rear of both of my cars.

If you want to keep your speedometer as accurate as possible, the ideal tire size for 17x9 would be 235/45. That's what I run and I have no complaints!
