For Sale 1998 Nissan 240SX SE KA24DE-T - Black/Black original paint
Manual, Moonroof, 5 lug, power everything
125,700 miles on car
Engine fully rebuilt at 115,000 miles (spun rod bearing) in summer of 2010 by previous owner, details below.

Car is sold!

I do still have the wheel/tire setup in the pics below, if interested PM me about them!

I bought this car and drove it to Madison WI from Grand Rapids MI in 2012, daily drove it for a summer and then bought an SUV for the winter. Since then I've driven it very little and have mostly been working on upgrading things on the car, as I intended to keep it. This was the cleanest kouki I could find in the midwest area, and I really hate to sell it but I really don't have the time to enjoy it. I'd rather someone who will appreciate and drive it, work on it, etc. would own it. I'm not desperate to sell and won't take low-ball offers, criticism, or advice. Not interested in parting out, selling the motor or shell, or removing components to change the price. Sorry, no trades, I'd rather have a garage with an open bay to work on some other projects I've got going on. Shipping is a possibility, but buyer has to arrange everything and all payment has to be verified/completed before picking up.

History:

Car was originally sold in Arizona, then spent some time in Ohio. Since going to Michigan in 2006 the car has only had about 30,000 miles put on it (less than 3,000 miles per year). Previous owner said he drove it some during 2 winters, but that's about it. I've put about 5,000 miles on the car and its been garaged the whole time, no winters at all.

The previous owner bought the car with the turbo kit (JGS kit) installed and drove it until spinning a bearing. He had the engine rebuilt completely with forged internals and a lot of upgraded parts. I bought it in winter 2012 and drove it that summer, parked it in the garage that fall and have been working on it ever since here and there, driving it minimally.

Body:

Original paint, no accidents, factory black. Paint is in great condition, I clay-barred and polished the whole car and have washed/waxed it religiously since. That being said, it is an 18 year old car and it does have minor flaws. There's a few dings here and there, a couple scratches that are visible, and some wear. I'm very picky, but honestly most of the "flaws" are very minor, especially considering what some people claim as a "clean" car. Most dents could be taken out with paintless dent removal, I planned on doing this but didn't get around to it. There is a scratch on the driver door that is through the paint, and both door handles show some chipping. The driver side skirt must have been replaced at some point, as it has some red paint showing through at the front by the wheel. I replaced the passenger fender because the original one was dented by the wheel well, was replaced with OEM steel part painted factory color professionally. Fenders have never been rolled or stretched.

Frame is clean and straight, very little rust, frame rails are solid. I was going to undercoat the car, but figured its better to be able to show people the actual condition (otherwise they'll assume the worst). I honestly believe the car only saw a few winters, most all rust is surface rust and could probably be knocked off with a wire brush (I've already done that in a few places while working on it). The pinch welds underneath do show some wear, I think previous owner used them as the primary jack stand points and didn't protect them.

Overall people are really impressed with the car and can't believe it's as old as it is.

Engine:

Previous owner spun a bearing on the motor and had it rebuilt in 2010, engine removed from the car, components hot tanked, block bored 0.040" over, and reassembled with new bearings, new crank, forged rods and pistons, head studs, head gasket, the whole works. Rebuild also included new timing set, oil pump, water pump, seals, distributor, etc. Head was cleaned/refreshed, valve job, and JWT cams installed.

Since I bought it I've changed out the intercooler piping to polished aluminum with black silicon couplings and new t-bolt clamps (ISIS kit), cleaned the intercooler out and sprayed it flat black on the front, and had the turbo rebuilt with upgraded bearings and seals (was burning oil, seal had went out on it). I've also simplified the wiring and vacuum lines (vibrant vacuum manifold block) and painted the valve cover wrinkle black. I put in a new Z32 MAF (OEM, not a cheap aftermarket one), which improved driveability immensely.

Oil changed with Royal Purple and Bosch filter, trans fluid changed last year.

A/C is not working, but all components and electronics are there and turbo kit is A/C compatible. It needs a custom line to the compressor, a compressor belt, and a recharge to work. Power steering is still hooked up and works fine. Alternator is new, roughly last year.

Interior:

Clean interior, pretty much stock, has a pillar cluster with the AEM Tru-boost and AFR gauge in it, also a nismo shift knob, black drift button on the e-brake, and nismo floor mats. Has an alpine deck and aftermarket speakers all around, the TEIN EDFC unit is located in the ashtray compartment and is hidden when closed.

TL,DR:

Good:
Clean 98 kouki (around 2000 made in 98), original paint/body with relatively low miles, no accidents/history
Paint shines like new, religiously waxed and babied
Rebuilt engine and turbo, ~10,000 miles on this setup, turbo just rebuilt
Stock bodied, never drifted, kitted, or abused
Quality parts used, no shortcuts or ebay parts. Tasteful modifications, most all parts new.

Bad:
A few dents and scratches in the body, not many and not bad
Short shifter rattles (may take apart and fix)
Sway bar hits exhaust occasionally
Rough ride with coilovers, not too bad at full soft
Cold idle hunts a little, runs great once warmed up

Thanks for the comments!

I updated some things, will take pictures of underhood and interior for those that asked.

This car is a turbo and a tune away from some serious HP, the engine can handle it!

It was too dark to take pictures of the interior, I'll get some good pics of both the engine and interior soon.

Back from SEMA bump! Walked 40 miles in 4 days, tons of amazing cars!

I'll have to clean up this thread and remove the double posts, add some better pics of engine/interior and get back to people who've sent me PMs.

Let me know if you have questions or want to see anything else.

I'll likely have insurance taken out on the car until it snows, then will only put it back on if someone shows serious interest.

Appreciate the offer, but clean stock koukis are going for about that now.

I am open to offers, but please consider what 97-98's are going for and what's into the car. This is a full engine rebuild, not a tired sr20 swap or a stock KA with a million miles and a turbo.

Haha, thanks I guess? I like them, but I think they do look nicer in person than in the pics, kind of like a simplified Works VS-KF but OEM Nissan.

I'm talking to quite a few people out of state looking to pick it up, offers have been coming in. Planning on taking some additional pictures today for those who have asked.

jvtec95
11-21-2015, 02:20 PM
So I have been fielding a lot of questions and offers via the inbox. Snows on the ground here, so here's my firm prices based on offers received:

$11k firm - car as it sits + extras (radiator, electric fan setup, s15 rear seat cover, a few other extras - basically things I didn't get around to installing)

$10.5k firm - car as it sits

$10k firm - if you want to bring your own wheels

I also have a set of 7 spoke G35 18" wheels with Bridgestone Blizzaks I could sell the car with as well, so something to think about. If I don't sell the car I'll work on it over the winter a bit, put it back up for sale in the spring and be a bit more firm on the original price.

jvtec95
11-23-2015, 11:30 AM
Bump, I'll likely be taking full coverage insurance off the car in a couple weeks.

Car is located at my house though, so if anyone does want to take a look at it after that just give me a little time in advance so I can put insurance back on it. Test drives will be dependent on road conditions.

I haven't raised the asking price, just been steadily dropping it trying to sell before there's too much snow on the ground, and added some options because people were asking (with/without wheels, etc). I know a black kouki similar to mine recently sold around here for $10.5k and the body was in a bit rougher shape, so I don't think I'm out of line with my asking price. Others have chimed in and agreed.

Honestly, if I were in Cali, I wouldn't be looking at cars in the midwest, but that's me. You guys already have cars that are much less prone to being rusted (and the rust on my car is very minimal, with none on the body). That being said, if people are looking for cars that far away, it says something about how few clean koukis are around.

dude. your car is pretty clean condition. I know a bunch of people in SOCAL that would love to have your car.

There are a bunch of Fbody camaros here that have worst rust than that and it hasn't seen a day of snow in its life.

I read through the original post, but couldn't find information on dyno?

jvtec95
12-03-2015, 11:27 AM
Car hasn't been dyno'd (that I know of), I'd estimate 300-350 hp based on similar builds. Boost builds at nice low RPMs since the turbo rebuild. I think an actual dyno tune would really wake up the car though, I suspect it is running on the rich (safe) side with the enthalpy ECU.

You guys already have cars that are much less prone to being rusted (and the rust on my car is very minimal, with none on the body). That being said, if people are looking for cars that far away, it says something about how few clean koukis are around.

Well said.

In the Chicago or WI area. Minimal rust is considered a blessing lol.

Seriously.

Bump, price lowered, would like to sell before the end of the year.

Replaced the Isis FPR with an Aeromotive one today & took it for a spin. I'm gonna miss this car when it goes, it handles like it's on rails!

How has it not sold yet. Clean kouki man. If I had the money I'd buy another one. Not too many clean kouki's going around and that price is more than reasonable GLWS dude

Thanks man, I thought it'd have sold by now as well. I've had a lot of others tell me the same, just no one close enough to actually buy it!

Just a note on the suspension because some people have asked, it's on nearly the highest setting with the 18's and how I have the alignment (not cambered). If you want to go low, the suspension has a ton of adjustment if that's your thing, I just wanted a mild drop with a good firm suspension. Also, I love the EDFC, it's really useful!

The cleanest kouki I have ever seen. I trade my rb25/26 coupe for this.

Thanks for the compliment! I still receive a lot of questions/offers, but no one's made plans to pick it up. A lot of offers for trades, and while I appreciate the offers, I really don't need another project! :)

Bump back up, I've added some S15 Spec-R emblems I had laying around to the lower rear fenders behind the doors. I think they're a nice touch and match the red Silvia hood emblem.

Well, she left today to a new home. Great guys & she's going to a good home with some big plans! Still sad to see her go though.

Sorry guys, car sold a couple weeks ago. I'll update the main page to reflect that.

Also, some people had asked about the wheels when the car was for sale. I kept them when the car sold, so if interested PM me about them.

They are 18x8 Infiniti optional wheels (I forget what model), but they are pretty rare. I don't think the pictures do them justice, they have a very nice curved profile to them with a little bit of lip. I think they look like a cleaner more simplified version of the Work VS-KF design (without the 3-piece bolts). The face and lip are machined aluminum finish and the inside of the spokes are a painted bright silver (all OEM).

I also have many other parts I'll be putting up for sale in the classifieds soon.
