- I did something 'radical and expensive' to my car to get other people (sponsors) to pay for my car parts (sponsorship).
- Nowadays sponsorships mean you have to fulfill certain obligations or they (sponsors) can charge you for all the parts they gave you.
- My $400 SEMA payment is refunded but what about all of the parts I got for free?

Conclusion:

Maybe you shouldn't fucking build a car to get parts for FREE. Maybe you should BUY THEM OUTRIGHT like 'normal' people. Maybe you should take your fucking time and build it over a few years instead of trying to shit out a car with 'big ticket items' to gain Instagram followers, e-fame, and *gasp* MORE SPONSORS. So now that this dude can't go to SEMA (missing on some more sponsorships, oh no!) he's all fucking miffed about (potentially) having to owe some of his sponsors.

A lot of heavy tension in this industry, its all dog eat dog behind the scenes from my experience.

I built a widebody out of clay for the rolloface e92 M3 that will be at the show this year.

This was done as an "internship".

The idiot owner of that company lost patience for how long it was taking to build something by hand- kicked me out, then he took the molds I made and had some other shop modify them so that the design was now less recognizable to the orignal design.

So basically he used me to get close to nothing labor for a custom design, and made sure it would be damn hard for me to take any credit.

The other guys states that you don't get full confirmation until 23OCT2015. He even says he's gone numerous times and waits for this confirmation. I'll go ahead and assume his car is done and that parts aren't on 'loan' from 'sponsors. That's probably why he can wait until a few weeks before the show.

I seriously think Miura-sans red GT86 on the original 16" BBS was/is the only good looking car wearing his kit. All the fucking FRS/BRZ cats throw it on, add 18x10 wheels, and leave the car under stock power. Makes sense. Very few turbo/supercharge and even then their cars only get driven to and from shows.

Props to Slava and the other guys that slide their FRS/BRZs. If I remember correctly they're only using headers and a tune. I was looking into it before I decided to sell mine.

I'm not gonna lie, I really like Mark Arcenal. I don't think he's a shitty person...the dudes that dickride his shit are definitely giving him a bad rep. Just like Fatlace/Illest, it's the dudes dickriding that give the chassis a bad rep. I had paint correction done by a detailer the other day and we talked about cars. He's an Evo 9 owner/enthusiast. We talked about how the community kills the cars because it's almost like every fuckboy from the s-chassis scene (and probably from NICO) hopped on the ZN6's dick and started singing swan songs. He hates detailing their cars because they swear it's the best thing since sliced bread. The car is, at best, as much fun as an S13 with a KA24DE and that's not a bad thing. I had plenty of fun in my S14 under KA24DE power. It doesn't need fucking 18x10 wheels, fender flares, and a fart can...but the community is obsessed with e-fame.

I got too wrapped up with hating the community that I sold the car (negative equity) and came back to the s-chassis. Had I been more patient, I would've probalby ended up like Slava. God damn I love watching him slide that thing like it's not new lol.

cliff_tallmanIt's more of a vendor/industry show. So, since it's gotten so big they can pick and choose which industry leaders they want to reserve (limited) space for. Honestly, if I had to put it together I would only invite shops that are showing/designing innovation. A Rocket Bunny ND Miata or even a Rocket Bunny Nissan Juke R would be invited (something new). But a Rocket Bunny S13 or FRS/BRZ, wouldn't make the cut due to the numerous examples already out there.....unless there's an FRS/BRZ Version 3 in the works...then I would let one in, lol.

chadstyleI have to agree with SEMA on this one. I have had a few of my own cars and have been part of countless SEMA builds over the years and I think their decision is a good one. Too many cars return year after year with virtually no changes. The whole outside of the convention center was filled with cars that didn't deserve to be there. We NEVER showed cars two years in a row or moved them from one booth to another. This is a marketing convention for aftermarket parts, not a car show. Should cars be on display? Of course, it's the best way to showcase products but some rules needed to be made. I'm not knocking you or your build at all so please don't take it that way. I watched your YouTube video and understand your perspective but I have to respectfully disagree and feel this move is best for the industry moving forward.

It's been a pretty big undertaking for

dude the seats are insane, but I wouldn't wanna drive around in one with no headrest. Robbs cage is going to get modified and there will be headrests attached directly to the cage.

as far as I know there are no plans for a top mount, but that may change. the idea behind the kit was to have bolt-on with zero modification, for super easy installation. The cams are supposed to have pretty impressive gains too, but they haven't released a dyno sheet or anything yet.

yeah everyone else just seems to be doing racecar builds with Boss kits, robb spoke at length with Kei Miura about the history and idea behind taking old Datsun ideas and refreshing them on a new chassis, and if you know Robb, hes a huge Datsun and hotwheels geek, so his design for the car had a massive influence from that. His Datsun sunny (technically its his GFs car since he bought it for her) will get resprayed in this same color soon too.

Am I the only that thinks the revival of Rusty was way over-hyped for the gross looking exterior? I still give respect where it's due for the amount of time and work he put into it, but aside from the engine bay, I'm not sure how I feel about the open rear fender and all that.

dude the seats are insane, but I wouldn't wanna drive around in one with no headrest. Robbs cage is going to get modified and there will be headrests attached directly to the cage.

The logo is on the side of the building, the car is the first one you see when you walk in, he sells the clothing. Its pretty spammy, so spammy you see the stickers on BMWs and civics alike. I have even seen people using the RWB coin pouch they sell.

When I first saw the picture of Rusty I figured it was the same car over again and busted up laughing about how a rusty lowered BMW got in but not StayCrushing. After I took a second look I realized the amount of time that went into it, granted its not my cup of tea, I don't really like it but the guy did put a lot of time into it.

For sure. I would choose Rusty over the FRS for the simple fact of the time and effort instead of just swiping a credit card and slapping on a few flares. I definitely do like how his engine bay came out though. When I looked further past the weird ass fenders and saw the tube front and rear, I definitely looked at it in a different light. On top of all that, the fact that he build it back from the ground up after his whole garage burning down is pretty killer.

as far as I know there are no plans for a top mount, but that may change. the idea behind the kit was to have bolt-on with zero modification, for super easy installation. The cams are supposed to have pretty impressive gains too, but they haven't released a dyno sheet or anything yet.

I read somewhere that the owner of a RWB-to-be doesn't have full creative control over the car...that it's something that Nakai-san determines based off the person. I can't remember where I read this, though...


yeah everyone else just seems to be doing racecar builds with Boss kits, robb spoke at length with Kei Miura about the history and idea behind taking old Datsun ideas and refreshing them on a new chassis, and if you know Robb, hes a huge Datsun and hotwheels geek, so his design for the car had a massive influence from that.

It's amazing that your buddy is staying so true to the Datsun theme and even the community by using shops like Superwow Factory and s-chassis guys like Toby. This car is fucking cool. I can't say it enough. Corey Hosford's Boss S14 looks pretty cool but it can't even compare to Robb's.

I also remember reading this somewhere, maybe a speedhunters article from a few years back? IIRC Nakai is ultimately the one who decides on the wording that ends up on the side of the car (Stella Artois, etc) and he also influences the owner when it comes to things like paint and wheel choice

It's supposed to look like an 80s-90s gt/stockcar. Front facia, fenders, stock shape or deleted bumper. The diffuser they make fits with the factory bumper intentionally on the s13.
