My 1990 s13 was having no problems until this morning. I drove it last night with no issues, worked on it last night. I recently fixed the brake light switch, I had to compensate for a new rubber tab on the brake pedal. I used pennies to depress the brake switch when I'm not braking. To do that I dropped the steering column. I'm wondering if dropping the steering column messed up any connections in the ignition and in the clutch safety switch. It cranked once this morning fine but I had to abort cause car was in gear, second time I tried car did not crank, battery is okay to start tested 12.4v. It's like I'm not pushing down the clutch to start it, no response from starter. Anyone vet have similar issue? Please shed some light on my situation, any ideas and opinions would be great. Thanks.

This might help http://forums.nicoclub.com/1991-1994-240sx-starter-not-turning-engine-over-tutorial-t249966.html I have only seen column issues when theres a car alarm involved.

Sounds like clutch safety may have gone out...I always bypass them but be careful with leaving car in gear...

How do you bypass them?

Cut the plug and twist the wires together.

Before you do that though, use a piece of wire or a paper clip and stick either end in either female portion of the plug and see how it responds. No point in cutting it up if you don't want to.

If you're just testing w/ wire or paper clip, no. If you choose to cut the plug for the long run, it's up to you.

Im assuming it's easier than buying a new switch all together

Totally possible. There's some very small wires that are BARELY long enough to reach the ignition, dropping the column with them plugged in could easily pull the wire out of the plug

Do you know exactly which wires those would be?
