Hey guys. I am having a problem with the Nissan Quest alternator in my 1998 Nissan 240SX. My problem seems to be slightly different than anything else I searched. I installed the quest alternator, modified it accordingly, and got a slightly longer belt. Install went ok other than the fact that the top mounting hole for the tensioner bracket does not line up to the slot that the bolt goes through. So right now I have no tensioner on the alternator. I wedged a pry bar in the alternator and pulled against it while a friend tightened the bolt for the mounting bracket. It seems to keep tension that way but I don't want to rely only on that. Does anyone know of anything that can be done to make sure that the tensioner will mount up?

Can anyone help in this? I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking about notching the alternator top mounting point to feed a bolt through and attach a nut on the other side.

Try sending codyace a pm. He's the one that makes the brackets for them.

You have to loosen the bolts where the tensioner bracket mounts to the timing cover. It will shift around enough for the slot to line up.
