I heard that sohc engines (ka24e)have faster acceleration then dohc engines(ka24de)  in the 1/4 mile. Is this true, or am i way off?  Does anybody use the sohc engine(ka24e) for the strip? Just something that i thought you guys could help me with. Thanks.

I dont know on that one.  They have less hp.  But they are in a car that is 100 pounds lighter.
Anyway.  I am sure there is a reason that people want to swap their sohc for a dohc.
I'm sure it has something to do with the weakness of the bottom end.  In turbo terms, they are WEAK.

DOHC engines breathe better=more horses or more horses to be had with mods.  Valve timing can be regulated in more diverse ways when there is a cam to regulate intake valves and a cam to regulate exhaust valves.  Single over head cams (SOHC) are not as flexible.

DOHC is faster although the SOHC has a different bore and stroke and compression than the DOHC.

DOHC Bore & Stroke = 3.5 X 3.78
Compression = 9.2

SOHC Bore & Stroke  = 3.41 X 3.94
Compression = 9

And if it matters the KA24D is a full 2400cc displacement and the KA24DE is only 2393 <img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
