loud turbo??

i drove my car to waffle house tonight it ran fine. I drove it a little hard getting there though. But when i went to leave my car sounded different. Kinda like a loud whistle coming from when the turbo spools up. Any idea what i should check? Its a s13 with stock stuff on it. thanks ahead of time

Is it normal spooling noise, just louder? Or a different noise entirely. Either way, you probobly just developed a boost or exhaust leak, look over the turbo (check the gaskets and make sure no bolts have backed themselves out), and IC piping for leaks.

check the four bolts holding the turbo to the manifold...those always come lose and cause that problem if thats what you have

its a louder noise, kinda like chickens are in my turbo. Its a weird noise. the car seems to run fine. I drove it a little. i just got done checking bolts everything seems to be fine. I hope its just an exhaust leak. But i dont think just just happen do they?
im starting to think i blew the gasket between the turbo and exhaust manifold. If i did how long could i run before it mess something up? And If ive gotta take the turbo out im just gonna get a new manifold too. I heard the SS crack, so who makes a decent cheap one?

just for the records. Dont drive with a blown gasket. I got to drive on mine 2 days. Now the turbo barely spools up. Im hoping i didnt do great damage to it

i am having the same problem.
i dont know where its coming from.
my core is kinda banged up.
i might be losing pressure there.

im not real sure if thats what mine sounded like. But mine wont make the noise in nutreal. Only when im driving. Ive got new mani, elbow, downpipe, testpipe, and exhaust in the mail anyways. So ill bolt all that up see if it fixes it. If anybody knows any tricks to help me change the manifold let me know. It doesnt look too fun to mess with

thats what it sounds like.. only when the boost kicks in. i tightened most of the T Clamps on the pipping the ones i could reach. the FMIC i have is a Hybrid. it is a little banged up.
i can achieve 10 pounds of boost if i rev it up high.
boost starts spooling at like 3 - 4.
but doesn't really gain pressure till 4k rpm.
then from there doesn't have much power.
i think i am gonna invest in the Blitz LM intercooler kit.
the turbo works i dont think its a gasket.

dont mean to steal thread, but since its on topic and would save starting another thread. i have had my sr down the road for only 2 miles since my swap do to other issues and i noticed the turbo seemed pretty loud, but was a wssssshhhhhhhhhhh instead of a wistle if that makes sense, i have not checked for boost leaks yet, but plan to, also my greddy type s bov seemed real sensitive barely press gas and let off it would ch ch ch ch like compressor surge, but i figure tightening up the tension spring on top of it would help that prob. i've never riddin in an sr powered car or heard what their turbos sound like so if someone could explain that'd be great.

sounds like the problem i have right now also, foudn out my bpv was still in there and i think its half way open'd(cause i have a boost leak(could be whats making the turbo spool harder/loud), and its still recuculated and crap but not 100% sure, cause my turbo flutters also, saturday i'll see what i can do, I'll tell you what happen'd in

okay since somebody brought this thread back up, ill post what i found wrong with my car. Gasket was blown, i only have like 1/2 of still intact. And my turbo was gummed up, it took oveer 120psi from a compressor to make it spin and it only spun once.
How i think i fixed it, still not sure seeing how 2 companys have taken over 15 days to get me my parts and i still havent seen my parts or heard back from them. But, i put the new gasket in there to fix that problem. Then for the turbo i sprayed 2 cans of wd-40 down in it since it will break-up that gummy stuff. I sprayed 1 full can in there and let it soak about 5 minutes then drained it. Then i took the other can and sprayed it in there untill i didnt have black stuff pouring out of the turbo again. After it was all said and done the turbo spun very nicely. ( i dont think i have any bad seals in it because it wasnt smoking, but ill see)
