Actually.. those kind of shiftknobs help the driver in racing situation.
It makes the shifter closer to the right hand of the driver which means minimal hand movement when shifting.
Well I guess it depends on the driver and how quick his/her hand is. :)

Man, That has to be hard to insert into your rectum. But it does have some brown stains so, it must work.

the C5R is a sequential gear box. not normal 6 speed. all he has to do is pull that thing back for the next gear, and push it foward to downshift.

maby you knew that, im not sure tho.

i was about to say "well damn, that'd take all the fun out of driving it," but then i realized that you're still driving a fucking C5R. those are incredible cars.

The Z06 has the most efficient pushrod V-8. It has so much torque you can cruise 65mph @ 1000rpm in 6th gear and get 28mpg. It's the best performing car for the money you pay. There's nothing wrong with pushrod motors.

Sport Compact car has a time attack a couple of months ago. ONe of the rules was "No pushrod engines" WTF? in other words "No Vipers Or Vettes cause we may get owned"

Pushrod engines are just old technology. They obviously have a load of potential and can put down a ton power. But I'm glad to hear that the new corvette engine will finally be moving on. Will it be in the street car versions as well?

that's exactly what i was thinking. in stock trim the Z06 is freaking hardcore. now, let em mod it? yeah, a 9 or 10 second car that can pull over a G on a skidpad is plenty to put fear in the hearts of the dynoqueen lemmings.

what wins every year in the SCC challenge? they've yet to put a vette in there cause it'd probably dominate as much as the ACR viper (with a good driver, of course).

yep..it would be hard to beat Tarzan's 8 second supra..but it blew up anyways.

What about the Lingenfelter Vette? That is one serious "I'll kick your ass" vette. Doesn't that thing get a 10.6 second 1/4 mile? or something like that.

Edit: I just realized the C5 IS a Ligenfelter LoL, stupid me. :duh:

Less even, ive read about both lingenfelter vettes and hennessey vipers running solid 9's.

Pushrod engines are just old technology.

Overhead cams are older. Pushrod engines appeared in production cars after WW2. There were DOHC engines in cars as far back as the 1920's.

Putting the cam in the block makes more sense for a V engine in a production car than sticking 4 cams on top. It makes the engine dramatically lighter and smaller. They've got a 5.7L V8 that cam be punched out to 7.0L, that fits in the same space and weighs the same as a 3.5L DOHC V6. That's technology!

I'm not sure why more valve area is considered "high tech", but more cylinder volume is "low tech". They're two different ways to achieve the same goal - pumping as much air, and therefore making as much power, as possible. Both avenues to power have been explored since the first people started asking, "how can we make this thing go faster?"
