alright, After getting my greddy pan in, I am all set to put the sr in the car. problem is after 8 hours, thats right 8 hours of trying to lign the mounts up, I am still nowhere, I know something is F'ed up because 2 years ago me with no automotive knowledge whatsoever dropped my buddys engin in, in like 20 minutes of foolin around, it was a ka to ka but still mounts should be same correct? I searched and found little to no info. I dont remember having to swap mounts, (not mounts to the frame but the metal mounts on the engine)
Id have to say the closest I got was one mount totally in, and the other lined up and only 5 mm away from the hole. u might say oh thats close, TRUST ME I banged on it to get it in and the thing wont move a spec, I even C-clamped the mount so as to make the bolt sit a few degrees higher and that helped line it closer but still nothing, WTF am i doing wrong, I feel liek a numbnuts.

yeah i dunno about sr, but KA left and right mount brackets are wayyyyyyy different. so different, in fact, that it's impossible to switch them

if it's only 5mm away, a good breaker bar could get it to go in.

well all is done so far, after crossthreading mounts and shit, but luckily I can still get the nuts tight, meph I was able to use a breaker bar to wedge between engine mount and chassis mount and get closer, but the real problem was my damn window mold polyurethane I put in, It made them sit higher or was just way too stiff, so after another 7 hours tonight I decided to just remove all the shit in the mounts and they are so loose now but the engine slid in with ease, thanks for the tips though.

^ Removing the poly was my idea last night and just was thought to might work another 3 hours into the process today. :)

now that the motor is in, slap some poly back in there!

should he slap it in with the motor snuggly in there or should he raise the wieght of the motor off the mounts... apply the poly and let it dry for a few days?

Wow so somone finally found out how to get solid motor mounts for free besides me.
Ok heres how you should do it.
Use the pass side ka mount on the sr. The motor will go in at an angle of about 5 degrees. When you install the tranny you will need a breaker bar to line it up. It will twist the motor mounts making them solid.
Wow what an idea. Good job.
I hope the rest of your swap goes well.

yah my mounts are looser than..... well I wont name names but yah I deffinitely need to stiffen em up again. but as far as the swap, Im overwhelmed in bullshit, finally got her up on ramps and its the largest rust pit ive ever seen. PS seems to be leaking, only halfway through decided to label baggies with screws. Hopefully I wont end up like everyone else seems to be, asking why their thing wont start or stay running, Im already off to a bad start. But hey, I bought all the expensive Fmic, bov and all that good stuff----- now realizing that doesnt mean shit :(
btw blu, I am not about to take that engine out again so in my situation like dak boy said, should I give it a nice tug on the engine lift, This would make the engine sit higher (good? bad?) and would allow more poly, but i donno.

i know this post is too late to help but i thought id throw it out for anyone else trying to get motor mounts to line up. I ended up installing 3 different motors in about 2 months time(long story) and didn't figure out till the last one that attaching the motor mounts to the engine instead of the car makes them slip right in since the bottom hole is a slot(wide) and the top hole is well just a hole. I ended up crowbarring an SR and a Sohc KA in and it took forever. The dohc i installed slipped in too easy(once we figured this method out). Hope this helps somebody.

Im not to sure about adding more poly. I wouldnt want to give out false info.
Btw, You are allways suppost to leave the motor mounts on the engine, it is a biatch if you try to drop the motor onto the mounts.
