S13DE engines have an external ignition coil while S14DE engines have the ignition coil built into the distributor.
S13 engines require 5 wires because of this...4 wires go from distributor cap to spark plugs. 5th wire goes from distributor cap to external ignition coil. S14 DE engines have the coil built into the distributor...no need for the 5th wire going from the distributor cap to the ignition coil. S13 wiring kits come with one extra wire.
