Well I'm back for round two. This time with a '93 S13 hatch. It's gold, brown, auto and all sorts of ugly. Most importantly however is that it is completely stock and 100% rust free.

My previous s14 build thread:
http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=492292

Plans:
Manual swap.
TypeX all the things.
1J.
High school girls.

First purchase should always be cool wheels. 17x9.5 Volk TE37's. They need a little love but got a good deal from Hobbs. I also picked up 5 lug and black interior from him.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k269/beems240sx/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsorhzggnm.jpg (http://s90.photobucket.com/user/beems240sx/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsorhzggnm.jpg.html)

Almost have all 5 speed parts pieced together.

Stay tuned for nudes.

Swung it by my buddies shop to check out the undercarriage. It's pretty darn clean. No leaks, no rust, no surprises.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k269/beems240sx/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsgrtch74y.jpg (http://s90.photobucket.com/user/beems240sx/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsgrtch74y.jpg.html)

First up was to figure out why the steering wheel was vibrating more than your girlfriends favorite toy...

This might have something to do with it.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k269/beems240sx/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsvnktnacz.jpg (http://s90.photobucket.com/user/beems240sx/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsvnktnacz.jpg.html)

Threw on some Megan arms off my s14. They do fit but you have to screw them all the way in. Hopefully the caster will be alright.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k269/beems240sx/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsmxd1ilao.jpg (http://s90.photobucket.com/user/beems240sx/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsmxd1ilao.jpg.html)

Vibration gone!

Picked up a set of kouki tail lights.

Picked up full black interior from Hobbs. He decided to send me 3 of everything.. Still waiting on my mint dash

That's what fortune auto recommend for a stock s13 that's just a weekend car. I had stance gr+ on my s14 and they were horrible. Really really stiff and just terrible ride quality. I can always upgrade to 9k/8k swift without revalving

To whom it may concern: These can go much lower! This is at 2" from collar to collar front. I'm working on making some more room in the fender well currently. Not interested in going lower. With the max amount of camber up front the inside shoulder of the tire is 3 times as hot as the outside.

Oh and I acquired my first Type X part.

Ever since I did my manual swap I've had a check engine light. I think it was just bad timing. I had code 34 and 15 or whatever it was for speedo. Fixed the speedo and knock sensor and the cel went away for like an hour and came back... Why would code 34 keep coming back? All oem uncut wiring so I'm pretty sure it's not a shielding issue.

Holy shit, he must have been backing out pretty damn fast to smash it up that bad, hopefully you can get it all fixed and looking sexy again.

Stock body with the TE's looks great, but if you went with some rear overs and some wider, maybe even double stagger, TE's to fill it out that'd be pretty sweet.

fuuuuuuuuuuck overs!!! This car is beautiful just the way it is, minus the dent know, of course. Just get that body fixed or find a stripped shell to transfer everything over and keep it OEM, that's the only way to go.

Pblesh85
05-07-2017, 04:10 AM
The only people that want over fenders either:

A. Have fucked up over fenders to start with.

B. Don't know how to size wheels properly, so they need them to clear whatever -40 offset wheels they found on Craigslist.

Spend the time to put an OEM qp on the car. The overall car will be quieter, look better, and rust won't be an issue in the long run.

That the mavericks kit? Used that one for my jzs171/CD009 setup in my Cressida. Wasn't super thrilled with the job they did with dowel pins getting everything concentric, take your time putting it together. Also, if you get a trans with the internal slave you'll need a spacer. Rich at xcessive made one for me, last I checked they don't sell it but I'm sure he still has the drawings.

Yes it’s the maverick kit. I’m doing an external slave trans.

I got the motor on the engine stand and fired it up for a second. Still need to figure out the throttle body if If i want to run it any longer. I was able to hear the servo energize when I put power to the blue w/ white stripe wire but still couldnt get it to work. It not a huge deal since I have the full wiring specialties harness when I toss it in the car, but would be cool to rev it a bit to make sure there are no weird noises. Ill post a vid soon!

Yes, I am. Still not sure what color yet. I have some bronze left over from my wheels that would be nice, but if i change my wheels it would throw it off. might do the valve cover in that. I really dont care about the bay paint that much. I just want to go drive the f*ck out of this car and crash it

Finally got around to spraying the bay. After a lot of debate I decided to just go with Red. This is by no means a perfect bay, like my S14 was. I dont care that much this time around. Just want to get it back on the road and have fun.

Started with lots of sanding and etching primer

Once that was down I masked the bay holes, A LOT of them, to prep for undercoating

Got work done this weekend. I can not stress enough how much this sucked. I have probably swapped 30+ engines and this was by far the least enjoyable, mainly due to the transmission.

Maverick adapter and flywheel all bolted up

bout to get stuffed

https://i.imgur.com/cMXGCbh.jpg?1

Here is where the fun started.. So i beat the living shit out of the bell housing area, that all was no issue. What I over looked was the area just above the cross member. I ended up using a scissor jack and spreading the metal A LOT so the transmission had clearance. I also had to cut the shifter hole about 2-3 inches back which i was not thrilled about. I do sit further back with my street faction seat bracket so it is very comfortable, but cosmetically ill have to either cut and weld the shifter further forward or make my own center counsel. Bolting the cross member in was another story as well as getting the engine to sit straight. At least my nightmare is over. My back was literally red and raw from crawling under the car 100+ times.

https://i.imgur.com/0pgQ3O9.jpg?1

Glad that is done. Also tossed in the driveshaft while I was under there. Started hooking everything up. Fuel lines done(ish) still need to make brakcets to hold the lines across the firewall. Powersteering is all done, utilizing the oem cooling loop for now. Heater hoses all done. I started routing the wiring harness and accidentally broke off the VVTI solenoid plug. Basically was about 10 hours into it Sunday and decided I should stop before I break more stuff from being exhausted.

Nooooooo! I have the same setup pretty much, 1j cd, and it does seem to hang pretty low. That curb looks like a decent drop too.

Got any pics of the fans in there as well? Interested in how you fit them as pullers.

It probably sits maybe half an inch from the ground. Im pretty annoyed, If I would have known it sat this low I never would of gone with the transmission. It has been nothing but expensive and a pain to fit. I will probably have to raise my car up so I dont destroy it.

I dont have any pics of it. I shaved the front of the water pump and the stud, probably fit it and cut the core support like 5 times. Im guessing ill need to notch the hood for the radiator cap now.

I've been contemplating this lately with having the Z33 trans in two of my S13's. I'm thinking of having a fabricator friend make me a removable/replaceable steel skid plate that bolts to the frame rails, spanning across them and just over the transmission. Yeah you use a little more ground clearance, but then you can just boardslide across that thing all day long and not hurt the trans, and then replace it off of a template when the time comes.
Something like welded nuts in the rails, and counter sunk screws into the plate.

I used to be against skid plates when my car was super slammed, because there wasn't any room between the street and the bottom of the car for a skid plate lol. But after ripping the oil pan off an engine and raising the car a bit, it's definitely a more appealing option than breaking the car.

It almost done. I have only one fan running since these draw so many amps. need another relay for the second fan. It is also breaking up underboost at times, i think i need to play with the plug gap. I have bkr7e's in there but I cant remember what i gapped them too.

I ran 2 seperate relays for my fans with seperate 10G wires to power each one, and that solved a shit load of issues for me. Although my fans flow like 3600CFM, so when the fans come on at a red light or something the car drops like 500rpm for a second, lmao.

Also, after inspecting plug gap (I run mine at .028 on my KA with LS coils) you might want to inspect the coils for a weak one or just swap to LS coils. The JZ coils are known for going to trash in their age.

I fixed the breaking up issue, it was just the gap. Pulls like a raped ape now. Only strange issue is the rev limiter, it seems to hit like a fuel cut instead of limiter. I have the one fan running off a thermostatic relay that kicks on at 165. im going to get another one to turn on the second fan at 210, should be good to go then. But yeah these pull just about 4K cfm as well
