Anybody know what this plate is on the firewall of my S14? I had an AC line connected to it that I removed. Its a pretty heavy plate welded to the thinner bracket. Some sort of firewall protection from engine interference??

Hey, I believe its called a Mass Damper. Used if you have A/C possibly reduce vibration or something? Anyways, I'm in the process of installing A/C in my car if you're not going to need it want to sell it to me? Let me know.

Sorry, you couldn't move it by chance. I don't see a way other than redoing it. Looks like I got an answer already.

Service manual doesn't mention it in the AC section. Some thought on the nico forum that it deflects the engine/tran mass down in the event of a head on crash. Seems far fetched since it seems the engine would just push this plate through the firewall with it. But maybe it made just enough a difference in crash tests.
Anybody with a non-AC S14 have one?

hmm. I did wreck an S14 once and it made a pretty nasty mess inside the cab. I could have been killed, yes. And I dont think I had that little plate there, took it off pretty sure. Doesnt mean anything but fwiw I wasn't going that fast either (40~)

i do not possess the power to move threads.
