View Full Version : I'm about ready to pull my hair out with these electrical issues

So I'm attempting to put an S13 SR blacktop into an 1995 S14.

I didn't have the KA harness that came with the vehicle so I had to purchase one and it turns out it's from a Kouki as identified by the wiper motor plug.

I was wiring up the F3 plug as seen by the wiring diagram from this write-up

http://om1kron.blogspot.com/2008/12/converting-s13-sr20-redtop-harness-to.html

But I found some pins didn't match up to the diagram and I chalked it up to the pinout being wrong since it does say that it doesn't match in the write up. I just matched color to color

I haven't put the SR in the car yet as I'd like to get this wiring issue sorted out. But I'm not getting any power to the wiper motor although the wiper motor tested good.

I'm not getting power from the key signal to the starter solenoid

And with the motor out of the car the starter isn't turning. The solenoid engages but it doesn't turn the flywheel. When the starter is off the motor I can attach the ground to the starter body and the positive to the positive nut, and use an alligator wire/clip to connect the positive nut to the solenoid key signal terminal and it'll shoot the gear out and spin.

I've tried this on 2 SR starters, one which I bought used today from a guy who guaranteed it good off of his old SR.

What the hell is going on here? I'm getting extremely frustrated.

Have you spun the engine by hand to see if it's seized? A perfectly good starter won't spin a locked up engine. Are you using adequately sized ground and power cables?

Ok so I think I figured it out, I went ahead and threw the whole thing into my car and properly hooked up the ground and power cables. I believe it was just my shitty jumper cables providing too much resistance.

But now that everything is in I'm having another problem. I'm only getting spark in cylinder 1. 61 ECU, S13 Blacktop SR, what I believe to be an early SR harness (ie, not a kouki harness).

I'm going to replace the ignitor tomorrow but unfortunately I don't have a 62 or 63 ecu to test with so I'm wanting to try other fixes first before shelling out that money.
