In searching, I've found plenty of setup theory and GM coil pack conversion setups, but I'm going with the K20 Denso smart coils for their dimensions, availability and proven performance well beyond my power goals. I've wired the K20 coil pack pigtails onto my wiring specialties coil pack harness and with a couple tweaks, they fit into the head pretty well, just a little bit taller.

I know the coils need direct 12v switched power, ground and all their signal wires, but I'm just looking to clarify bypassing the ignitor before I screw anything up and avoid hunting when I'm already electrically challenged. My previous owner swapped the S13 SR into my S14 and it was working before I decided to redo most of it lol. He fed a wire from the ignition switch to the starter spliced to ECU pin 36 ign on. From what I'm gathering, there's a whole bunch of back and fourth with the ignitor that I'm not too clear on.

I'd like to not go directly from the ECU to the coils if I don't have to so do I just splice across the ignitor's two pigtails' signal wires deleting it and feed a switched 12v to the coil pack harness's power wire at that pigtail or am I WAY off here? I have the FSM diagram, but idk wtf is really relevant in bypassing, this is the last thing for me to tackle to fire up this whole new combo and I'm getting tired lol

You have to wire straight across when you delete the factory SR igniter. They are just signal wires telling the coil to fire. The 12v would come from the plug connection just behind the head.

awesome, thanks JR. That's what I thought, just wanted to confirm i wasn't totally missing something. How's your setup Jr?

I can't wait to play with this whole new setup.

It's running good. Tweaking small things here and there. I'll be going back at some point to mess with cam switch over points soon and possibly a race gas tune.

I saw this repeatedly, but when I traced wires according to the info I could find on an S13 SR wiring, there were 2 that were swapped, the other 2 were straight across. Going off memory here, but I think that's what I found.

that's what I was wondering, but I couldn't discern which was supposed to go from each side of the ignitor from the wiring diagram to the actual ignitor since my wire colors didn't seem to match what the diagram said, but I'll double check into that again. Thanks def

The S13 SR FSM isn't widely posted online, so I had to do some digging to find the wire colors. Some are different from the widely available S14 SR FSM.

It didn't help that the ignitor has ascending numbers relating the the pins on both sides of the ignitor lol
